Working Dog Winery

Working Dog Winery Our story starts early in 2001 with a group of friends relaxing after work one day. The conversation rambled from topic to topic until it landed upon an idea . . . "wouldn't it be great if we could plant some grapes and try making our own wine?" One thing led to another, and before they knew it, these friends were digging holes and planting vinifera, on what is now Working Dog's vineyard. The vineyard is located in the rolling terrain of eastern Mercer County in Central New Jersey. We started with 3 acres of Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay. The more we planted, and the more wine we made, the more we came to realize that our terrior . . . that combination of soil, climate, topography . . . is capable of producing outstanding fruit. And our idea about making our own wines has taken on a life of its own, quickly changing from hobby to passion to obsession. Oh yeah, and somewhere along the line, it became a business.

  Black Feather Chardonnay
The bright straw coloring of our 2004 Black Feather Chardonnay exhibits ripe honey and buttery tones. Aged in French and American oak, this wine is a perfect match with poultry and rich cheeses.
  Black Feather Chardonnay Reserve
Is this Chassagne Montrachet? Our French-styled Chardonnay has a nose that jumps from the glass. Clean and balanced, with notes of subtle vanilla, minerals and honeysuckle and a persistent finish. This wine has finesse -- try with flounder, sole, or porbeagle shark. And from NY Times Food & Wine Critic David Corcoran (July 17, 2005): "I loved the 2004 Chardonnay. It has a bright mineral edge that keeps it refreshing, with no loss of fruitiness."
  Blueberry Wine
Decadent and rich, this dense sweet wine envelopes the palate. Enjoy alone, or try with vanilla ice cream or cheese cake. Winner - 2005 NJ Wine Competition - Bronze Medal
  Cabernet Franc
This Cabernet Franc with its spicy cherry and cocoa exhibits clean earthy aromas that are distinctly French in style. Medium dark ruby color with cherry tone edges, the aromas are of subtle oak, cassis and spice. The front palate is young and firm with chalk and cherry dominating the mid-palate. The finish is persistent and ripe with soft tannins. 2004 Silver Decoy Cabernet Franc needs 2 to 5 years of cellaring to reach its potential . . . but can be hedonistically enjoyed now. Enjoy with grilled beef, venison and duck.
  Chambourcin
Dark and clear with a black cherry color, the nose is new oak, spice, black pepper and sweet Bing cherry. This wine has nice viscosity, with pepper initially, flowing into black cherry. Sweet anise mid-palate. Not very tannic, but bright and fresh with acidity. Nice zip on the finish. Great with pasta, chicken and pork.
  Pinot Grigio
  Red Raspberry Wine
Bright red and crystal clear, the aromas of freshly crushed raspberries leap from the glass. On the palate, be prepared to have your preconceptions of fruit wine challenged. This is not a sweet cordial style raspberry wine, but rather a lightly dry power-house of raspberry jam . . . but not cloying. The textures are clean, crisp and ripe. The great attack and intense raspberry sweetness on the finish make this wine addictive. Winner - 2004 NJ Wine Competition - Bronze Medal
  Retriever
  Sunrise Blush
Perfect for enjoying anytime, this peach-colored wine sparkles brightly in the glass. The nose is enticing, with notes of pink grapefruit and citrus. You'll enjoy the clean taste and sweet mid-palate of this blush. The refreshing finish leaves you yearning for another sip.
  Traminette
Silver Decoy Traminette emphasizes the fruit-forward qualities of the exciting new variety. Traminette's German lineage to Gewurztraminer is evident with floral apricot aromas and subtle spices. Our fresh off-dry style is perfect as an aperitif and also can be enjoyed with poultry or Asian fare. Winner - 2005 NJ Wine Competition - Bronze Medal
