Carlson Vineyards - Grand Junction

Carlson Vineyards - Grand Junction Since 1988 Carlson Vineyards, a small farm winery, has produced premium wines in the heart of Colorado wine country above the town of Palisade and the Colorado River on East Orchard Mesa. We welcome everyone – wine lovers, the curious, family and friends – to join us in our casual and friendly tasting room. A local favorite, Carlson Vineyards was an early pioneer in making wines with local, Colorado grown sun-ripened fruit and wine grapes. Find your favorites among reds, whites, blends and fruit wines – from dry to sweet. Well-known for Riesling wine, CV won the prestigious World Cup Riesling Award in New York! Gewurz sells out each year, and has won numerous awards including “Best of the Fest” twice at the Colorado Mountain Winefest. Recently the Palisade Peach wine won Double Gold and inclusion in the Colorado Governor’s Cup Niche Case for Best Fruit Wine. The vineyard, one of Colorado’s oldest, dates to a first planting in an old apricot orchard in 1981 and first commercial wine in 1988. As one of Colorado’s biggest fruit wine producers, the winery produces 10,000 cases a year, one third of which are fruit wines. The fruit wines are 100% Colorado fruit.

Products

  2003 Colorado Cabernet Sauvignon
Also left in contact with the skins for an extended period after fermentation (30 days), this dark, rich wine exhibits delightful cherry and strawberry tones, yet has the backbone (tannin) of a Stegosaurus! Can be enjoyed upon release, or cellared for 5 or more years. Suggested Food Pairings: Rich pasta, lamb, or beef dishes.
  2003 Colorado Merlot
Extended maceration (skin contact: 32 days) and bleeding off of juice for the White Merlot (Saignée process) produced the very concentrated dark berry flavors of this full-bodied, rich wine. While ready for enjoyment upon release, this wine will improve with age, and can be cellared for 5 or more years. Suggested Food Pairings: Delicious with sharp cheeses, beef and red pasta dishes. Also pairs well with flavorful barbeque and game.
  2004 Colorado Chardonnay
Barrel-fermented and aged Sur Lies ("on the yeast") in 100% new French & Hungarian oak, this wine has a smooth, buttery texture with fruit flavors of soft pear and melon, and a subtle vanilla finish. Suggested Food Pairings: Excellent with mild cheeses (brie, mild cheddar), rich seafood and shellfish, fettuccini, and poultry.
  2004 Riesling
To retain the ripe, tropical fruit flavors of the grapes, this wine was slow-fermented at 55 degrees and carefully processed under strict temperature controls. The fermentation was stopped at 3% residual sugar. The result is a crisp, refreshing wine with sweet mango and honey flavors balanced by the natural acidity of the Riesling grapes. Suggested Food Pairings: Refreshing by itself also surprisingly versatile with food, from light cheeses (gouda, swiss), light seafood, and turkey, to spicy Asian and Cajun cuisine. Serve well chilled.
  Chardonnay - Vinelands Reserve
Produced from premium Colorado Chardonnay grapes and barrel-fermented and aged Sur Lies ("on the yeast") in 100% new French & Hungarian oak, this wine is rich and buttery, with a hint of butterscotch, and a soft vanilla finish.
  Colorado Claret
A blend of the best barrels: 55% Cabernet Franc; 30% Merlot; 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Very concentrated dark berry flavors; rich and full-bodied. While ready for enjoyment upon release, this wine will improve with age, and can be cellared for 5 or more years. Delicious with sharp cheeses, beef and red pasta dishes. Also pairs well with flavorful barbeque and game.
  Colorado White Merlot
Back by popular demand! Made from premium Merlot grapes. Immediately after crushing, the juice for this wine was siphoned off the red must (Saignée process, meaning "to bleed") and cold-fermented at 55 degrees, then stopped at 2% residual sugar. Very crisp, spicy and refreshing, with distinct pink grapefruit flavors. Suggested Food Pairings: Can be served alone, or as a colorful compliment to brunch Patés and Quiches also good with ham and Asian cuisine. Serve well chilled.
  Riesling
Semi-sweet. Crisp and aromatic with pear and honey flavors. Excellent alone, with fresh fruit and cheese, or with spicy Asian, Indian or Cajun cuisine. Serve chilled.
  Syrah
Bold, dark and rich, with soft tannins and big fruity flavors of blackberry and plum. A full-bodied wine that pairs well with hearty beef and red pasta dishes.
  Zinfandel Port
Fortified port dessert wine produced from late-harvest Zinfandel grapes from Lodi California. 19% Alcohol, 8% Residual Sugar - rich and powerful flavors of raison and fig. Sip this one by the fire with some chocolate-covered Espresso Beans!!
