Castle Hill Cider

Castle Hill Cider ORIGINALLY built in 1764, in Keswick, Virginia, Castle Hill was the home of Colonel Thomas Walker, guardian and mentor to Thomas Jefferson. Today, Castle Hill reclaims its glory as a cidery and premiere venue for weddings and special events. Make some history of your own at The Barn in the heart of Central Virginia's equestrian and fox hunting country.

Directions
From Charlottesville: From I-64 East take Exit 124 to Route 250 East/Shadwell. Turn right onto 250 East. Turn left at Route 22 East. Continue on Route 22, which will fork right at Cismont store. Stay straight (or left) onto Route 231 for 3.3 miles. Turn left on Route 640/Turkey Sag Road. Go .75 miles then turn left between white stone posts at Castle Hill Cider. Follow signs to Tasting Room. From Washington: Take I-66 West to Route 29 South then turn right on Route 15 South. Go 17.3 miles through the small town of Orange. When road ends, turn left and continue 8 miles on Route 15 to the round-about at Gordonsville. Go right around the circle and take second exit onto Route 231 South. Continue 6.3 miles. Turn right onto Route 640/Turkey Sag Road. Go .75 miles then turn left between white stone posts at Castle Hill Cider. Follow signs to Tasting Room. From Richmond: Take Interstate 64 West towards Exit 129 (Black Cat Road). Turn right onto Route 616 (Black Cat Road) and follow until road ends at Route 22. Turn right onto Route 22, which will fork right at Cismont store. Stay straight (or left) onto Route 231 for 3.3 miles. Turn left on Route 640/Turkey Sag Road. Go .75 miles then turn left between white stone posts at Castle Hill Cider. Follow signs to Tasting Room.

  Celestial
This cider has firm tannin structure that exhibit notes of earthiness, spice and citrus.This comes from a blend of Ellis Bitter and Albemarle Pippin apples. Celestial’s finish is enhanced by a touch of Winesap apples that offer a bright clean finish. Pairing this cider with dishes incorporating rosemary or lavender will pick up on its aromatic notes.
  Gravity
This still Virginia cider is amber in color with notes of melon, peach, and light citrus. Gravity’s hint of sweetness on the finish is balanced with good astringency. Blend of Grimes Golden, Pink Lady, Ellis Bitter, Dabinette, Yerlington Mill, and English bittersweet apples.
  Levity
The flagship sparkling Virginia cider of Castle Hill, aged and fermented in clay amphorae called kvevri. Allowed to rest on full lees for four months, this cider expresses layers of complexity. Full body with good minerality and hints of earthiness. 100% Albemarle Pippin.
  Terrestrial
A nose of fresh apples with a hint of peach that follows through on the palate. Bright acidity gives this a clean, refreshing finish. Blend of Winesap and Albemarle Pippin apples. Extremely crisp and refreshing, Terrestrial pairs nicely with aromatic dishes or makes a cleansing counterpoint to rich cheeses.
