Cardinale Estate

Cardinale Estate Cardinale is a wine inspired by the mountain terroir of its estate and select vineyards along the Mayacamas Range. Cardinale's densely planted, low yielding vines endure the challenging elements that produce exceptional grapes. The steep slopes and rocky soils of our estate vineyards - Keyes (Howell Mountain) and Veeder Peak (Mt. Veeder) - provide good to excellent drainage, and trace elements which contribute to the wines' complexities. During veraison, green clusters of grapes are removed from the vine, allowing the fruit with the most potential to mature. After veraison, a second thinning of remaining clusters further reduces yield, ensuring only the ripest and most flavorful grapes are considered for Cardinale. Once in the winery, the grape clusters are sorted by hand and fermented in open top fermentors that extract the subtleties of flavor from the skins. Pressing is done in traditional basket presses, with the young wine placed into 100% new, tightly grained, French Chateau styled oak barrels for extensive aging. Winemaker Christopher Carpenter bottles Cardinale unfined and unfiltered. In the words of Robert Parker Jr.'s, The Wine Advocate, Cardinale "is one of the profound wines being produced in northern California."

  Cardinale
Our 2001 Cardinale exhibits layers upon layers of dense flavors wrapped in a velvet texture, defining power and finesse. The wine opens up with aromas of rich, black fruits, dark plum, ripe black cherry, roasted coffee, violet, slight herb notes and toasted oak. In the mouth, the wine offers fruit forward essence with middle richness, and back pallet opulence balanced with a sweet vanilla/oak tonality. Tannins are chewy and add to lushness.”
  Cardinale
Full bright ruby. High-toned, pure aromas of black cherry, licorice, violet and bitter chocolate. Powerful and very intense, with enticingly sweet black cherry and mocha flavors. A rare combination of strength and finesse. This may ultimately be sweeter and suppler than the '99. The tannins are currently covered by extremely persistent fruit. Mt. Veeder and Howell Mountain fruit comprise the core of this blend.
  Cardinale
Classic Cabernet Sauvignon flavors and bountiful aromas of ripe blackberry, dark chocolate, tobacco and slight rosemary deliver through to the palate. This is a structurally dense wine with very approachable entry tannins. The flavors carry over to focused tannins on a lengthy finish, providing a wonderful combination of power and sophistication. Drink now for power, with ability to hold for 10-15 years.
