Christian W. Klay Winery

Christian W. Klay Winery Owned by Sharon Klay, who explains 'Growing grapes in a previously untested area, I was presented with the challange of having many varieties which had been trialed for the unique mountain top site.My approach to the blending had two aspects; I recognized that the Europeans have used blending for centuries and as artist, I knew that taking a color and adding a touch of another color resulted in a much more interesting richer color. In making wine , one simply applys the same principle except the difference is reflected on the palate instead of the palette!' From the Palladian style window in the tasting room which is in the lower level of a restored 1880's barn, one can gaze up towards the mountain top vineyards. There is a deck, picnic tables around the pond, event facilities in upper level of barn and 3 other outdoor sites for weddings and wine/food events. Christian Klay Winery is located on the scenic National Highway just southeast of Pittsburgh. Their wooded setting has inspired non-traditional winery events such as Wine and Dine in the Woods. This unique dining experience features a hayride into the nearby woods where a gourmet feast is served along with a sampling of wines that complement the menu and the live guitar music. Hours: Spring, summer & fall: Sun - Thurs 12- 6, Fri & Sat 11-7. Jan, Feb, Mar, April: Fri & Sat 11-6; Sun 12-6; and by appointment.
