Rued Winery

Rued Winery The Rued Family has been farming in Sonoma County for 5 generations. We started growing grapes in Dry Creek Valley in the late 1950’s and now have vineyards in Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley and the Russian River Valley. The grapes in our Zin come from a small 4-acre vineyard on bench land in Dry Creek Valley. The bud wood came from some old grapevines in Geyserville from the Mazzoni property. The vines are now considered “heritage vines”. We are in the process of obtaining permits to build our own winery and tasting room on Dry Creek Road. We hope to have that accomplished by 2005.

  Dry Creek Zinfandel
In 2001 the grapes ripened by maturity which resulted in seeds that were brown, hard and crunchy that produced a wine with less green tannin in it and good structure. The grapes were fermented in an open fermenter with a punch down regimen. The wine was aged in a combination of American and French Oak barrels with 40% new oak barrels. We have used this combination to allow the varietal characteristics to come through without having an overpowering oak flavor. The wine is 100% Dry Creek Zinfandel.
