Blue Fish Distillery was born in December of 2014.
Fisher, a former mechanical engineer by trade, has always been curious about the distillation process. In fact, his first foray into the field was in high school, when he and a friend tried making moonshine using a process outlined in a library book. Years later, during a business trip to China, he purchased a blown-glass still, just because he thought “it was pretty cool”.
So when he was ready for a career change, he and his wife, Ellen (an accountant) decided to make his distilling dream a reality. The name? Well, that was a no-brainer.
“Blue Fish works on several levels,” explains John. It helps pay tribute to my grandmother. It plays on our last name, and it ties into to my other passion—sailing.
Distilling by design: creating the perfect beverage.
“Just like manufacturing products, making great spirits relies heavily on perfecting the process,” explains Fisher. “I love creating each spirit—cultivating just the right taste and mix of ingredients at each stage. But what I love most is seeing the reaction people have when they try it for the first time. It’s incredibly rewarding.”
