McCall Wines

McCall Wines With Long Island's largest vineyard of Pinot Noir, and an equally sized vineyard of Merlot, McCall focuses on crafting low yield, quality driven wines. The vineyards (planted in 1996) and surrounding farm can be found in the town of Cutchogue, where the McCall family has lived for generations. Their rustic tasting room, once a barn for potato storage, sits on the property with a welcoming lawn and charming pastoral feel. Russell McCall partnered with the Peconic Land Trust to save the farm and surrounding woodlands from the threat of development in the 1990s. Once saved, McCall planted vineyards in the fields once used for corn and potatoes, defying convention and going with the finicky Pinot Noir grape on the southern end of the farm. He then waited to make his own wine until the vineyards reached maturity, and the time was right. Committed to quality and sustainability, McCall released his first wines in 2007. Since, they have found their way to critical acclaim. They can be seen on the wine lists of a handful of upscale restaurants in New York City and on the East End. In 2010, McCall Wines became the first wind-powered farm in Long Island, blazing the trail for many other local farmers. In the same year, McCall began ranching organic grass-fed cattle, which can be seen grazing in the fields alongside his vineyards.
