Bugay Vineyards

Bugay Vineyards Bugay Vineyards is the embodiment of a dream driven to reality by passion, perseverance and patience. Long ago, the search began to find the ideal site for planting vines. Although Napa and Santa Barbara Counties were thoroughly investigated, we were most intrigued by the irresistible beauty and challenge of this land we now call home, located high in the Mayacamas Mountains of Sonoma County. We immediately fell in love with the stunning beauty of this rugged, inaccessible and forested parcel. To our great fortune, this parcel revealed hillside meadows suitable for vineyards and the soils proved to be a winemaker's dream.

  Bugay Vineyards Cabernet Franc
The low yields in our steep, rocky, Cabernet Franc vineyard ensure deep, concentrated flavors. Our 2004 vintage is loaded with currant and red cherry. The aromas are complex and tantalizing while the characteristic flavors of tamarind and spice, so unique to this varietal, are abundant in this wine. Aged for eighteen months in new, French, oak barrels, this wine pairs beautifully with creamy pate', rich casseroles, and aged cheeses.
  Bugay Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 2003 release is a combination of clone 15 and clone 337 hand selected from the estate vineyards. Due to the ultra steep hillsides and rocky volcanic earth, the vines naturally crop to approximately 2 tons per acre creating a luscious, complex concentration of fruit. The aroma of this wine reveals cassis and plum with subtle layers of forest mushroom, anise and spice. This wine is full and structured with wonderful dark berry, black plum and mineral notes. Aged in only the finest French oak barrels, it is luscious from the beginning to its long vanilla, dark chocolate finish. While approachable now, it will age elegantly for many years.
Bugay Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve ‘Incline One-nine’
This rare bottling is produced from a Clone 15 selection of Cabernet Sauvignon grown in a unique block of our mountain vineyard. The slope in this location is a steep 19 degrees. The rocky volcanic conditions, combined with the extreme angle, provide excellent drainage and sun exposure. Crops tend to be no more than 2 tons per acre although they are grown on vigorous rootstock. This wine is intense! The flavors are rich and concentrated revealing black fruits, roasted meat, earth, and a hint of anise. Aged for 29 months in the finest French oak barrels; this huge, complex wine will evolve for many years with proper cellaring.
Bugay Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve ‘Les Rocheuses’
Les Rocheuses (the rocky mountains) pays tribute to the French, hand crafted and personal, wine -making traditions, while describing the extremely rugged and rocky conditions in this section of our vineyard. The fruit is produced exclusively from Clone 337 resulting in a classic Cabernet. The aromas are seductive and the wine reveals luscious flavors of concentrated cassis, plum and spice along with a hint of volcanic earth. Aged for 29 months in the finest French oak barrels, this wine is rich and elegant with a lingering finish. Decant now, and this wine is sure to be the highlight of your special occasion gatherings.
  Bugay Vineyards Syrah
Our Syrah is produced entirely from our Bugay Estate Vineyards located in the Mayacamas Mountains of Sonoma County. The combination of volcanic soils, mountainous terrain, southern exposure and low yields produce a highly concentrated wine with intense varietal character. Small lots are fermented separately and aged in only the best Louis Latour and François Fréres Barrels. Seductive aromas of blackberry, plum, and black cherry are framed against a foundation of rich chocolate, coffee bean, anise, toasty oak, and wild game. The palate is round, silky, and extravagant. A lush core of plum, dark chocolate, berry compote, and balanced fine tannins accompany an almost endless finish.
  Bugay Vineyards Syrah
This classic Syrah is comprised of 100% Bugay Vineyards estate fruit. The vines are grown in decomposed, volcanic soils, which we believe impart a sensual earthiness. This wine is a blend from fruit grown on 4 premium Syrah clones. The aromas are extraordinary and reflect the black plum, mocha, bacon and spicy cardamom characteristics found in this wine. Aged for 20 months in new, Louis Latour, French oak barrels, this wine will continue to mellow and become even more delicious with proper cellaring. The combination of bright fruit, spice, and mineral flavors found in this wine pair deliciously with lamb, game dishes and hearty stews.
  Bugay Vineyards Zinfandel
When it comes to great Zinfandel, there is nothing better than a Zin made from steep, hillside vineyards. The fruit is naturally concentrated and distinct. This first release from the estate vineyards is nothing short of fantastic. The aroma is loaded with raspberry, blackberry and dark cherry. On the palate the wine reveals its volcanic origin with undercurrents of complex minerals. A wild mixture of spices, oak and berries play throughout this wine culminating in a dynamic black pepper finish.
  Bugay Vineyards Zinfandel
Our ‘Costa Magna’ Zinfandel clone is grown in an extremely rocky vineyard site. The vines are grown with a high head trained (vertical cordon) canopy. This method, combined with our ideal microclimate, yields fully ripened fruit without the typical uneven ripening so characteristic of this varietal. The end result is a truly magnificent wine. Bright, delicious layers of pure, complex fruit are displayed from beginning to end. The aromas are heavenly and the long, exotic, spicy finish is incredible. This wine is perfectly balanced and may redefine what you would expect from a fine Zinfandel.
