Vineyard 7 & 8

Vineyard 7 & 8 The two founders of Vineyard 7 & 8 met through their mutual passion for wine. Steven Grover, the owner of Fine Wines International in San Francisco, has had 35 years of experience with fine and rare wines from around the world. Launny Steffens, who lives in New York, is a wine connoisseur extraordinaire. His love of California wines led to the quest to make truly great wines of elegance, complexity, balance and longevity in California, specifically the Napa Valley. The sheer joy of producing wines that will compete with the most sought after and respected in the world became the driver of this enterprise. The goal of Vineyard 7 & 8 has been to make the best possible California Cabernet Sauvignon from the Spring Mountain terroir. No expense has been spared from investment in the vineyard and its improvement, building a winery with storage caves in the hillside for barrel aging, to hiring acclaimed winemaker Christian LeSommer whose resume is nonpariel. Whatever it takes, and however long, is their shared philosophy.

  Vineyard 7 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
The Cabernet of Spring Mountain is typically a very long-lived wine of very full body and purity of fruit. The wine has multi layers of complex flavors with long lingering finish. Yet, for all its boldness and intensity, there is a lush elegance and balance that makes Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon unique and distinctive.
  Vineyard 7 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2002 Vineyard 7 Reserve is a bigger wine than the 2001 but not at the expense of elegance and finesse. It already exhibits a complex nose of ripe, black currants and blackberries intermixed with whiffs of cedar, tobacco, spice and cocoa powder. There is a wonderful balance to the wine in the mouth and the rich complex flavors reflect their aromatic profile. A touch of smoky oak enhance sthe complexity without taking away from the exquisite flavors and long lingering finish. While impressive now this wine is destined for a long life. Additional aging for a decade or more should bring out the best in this wine.
  Vineyard 8 Reserve Chardonnay
The 2002 Vineyard 8 Chardonnay exhibits an intense nose of tropical fruit mixed with citrus and spice. The fruit flavors echo the aromas and on the palate and the wine is mouth filling. There is a long, lingering finish and the subtle flavors of Seguin oak add to the wine¿s complexity while not intruding on the purity of the fruit flavors.
  Vineyard 8 Reserve Chardonnay
The high elevation of the vineyard, (2020 feet) and the low yields have resulted in a remarkably complex wine which exhibits intense minerality as well as ripe lemon, apple and spice aromas and flavors. The wine is beautifully balanced and has a long, lingering finish.
