Hug Cellars

Hug Cellars Hug Cellars is a small family owned winery established in 1994 by C.I. (Augie) Hug and Raquel Mireles Rodriguez. While becoming a reality in 1994, Hug Cellars started conceptually during the mid 1980’s, while Augie was the chef of a small restaurant located in Northern California. Augie found that the union of food and wine came quite naturally to him, and it was during this time that he developed his love of wines. A few years later, Raquel and Augie were proprietors of a wine shop and tasting room in Harmony, on the Central Coast of California. It was there, that they were befriended by a couple of visionaries, Mat Garretson, founder of the Viognier Guild, and later of Garretson Wine Co.(Garretson Wines) and John Alban, of Alban Vineyards (Alban Vineyards) . Soon after their meeting, Mat and John founded the Hospice du Rhône; the largest wine event in the world for fans of Rhône varieties (Hospice du Rhône). Augie and Raquel became familiar with the wines made on the Central Coast from these obscure grape varieties originating from the Rhône Valley, and showcased them in their wine shop and tasting room. Soon the Central Coast Wine Room was well known as having an extensive array of nearly every wine made on the Central Coast from Rhône varieties.

  Casa Mireles, Romanze
A bright dry rosé from predominantly Syrah and a splash of Pinot Noir. This wine is like a bowl of fresh strawberries and raspberries. Excellent paired with all foods or as a quencher, on the patio on a sunny afternoon. Give this one a try!!!
  Hug Cellars Bassetti Vineyard Syrah
From one of the trendsetting vineyards in San Luis Obispo County, this wine offers up a classic example of what the 2003 vintage provide most Central Coast Syrah growers with. This wine has more elegance and balance than previous vintages which plays as a great complement to the power and mature ripeness we historically obtain from the Bassetti Vineyard.
  Hug Cellars Encantada
Made from botrytised Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. It is delightfully sweet, without being overboard. Bursting with the flavors of ripe stone fruit mixed with honey and clove.
  Hug Cellars, Central Coast, Syrah
A blend of some of our favorite Syrah vineyards on the Central Coast. This wine is a younger cousin to our single vineyard Syrah’s. For those of you who enjoy the European style of wines, this one is for you. This wine exhibits intense blueberry and blackberry, white pepper and lavender. It is a great match with food, with its high acid and lower alcohol. The 2004 Central Coast Syrah is a perfect accompaniment with roasted meats like beef and lamb, but would also go great with hamburgers and pizza. Enjoy now or over the next 12 years.
Hug Cellars, Orchid Hill Vineyard, Paso Robles, Pinot Noir
Orchid Hill Vineyard is located on the Westside of Paso Robles on a hillside at an elevation of 1800’. Mike and Estrella Schenkhuisen are growing some of the best Pinot Noir in the Paso Robles area. This wine is more about power and structure. Forest floor, mushroom and bing cherries are prevalent in this wine. A great example of California Pinot Noir.
Hug Cellars, Rancho Ontiveros, Santa Maria Valley, Pinot Noir
James Ontiveros is one of the most dedicated growers on the Central Coast. He is providing us with some of his stellar fruit, grown on his family vineyard overlooking the Santa Maria Valley. We have produced a wine that is all about spice and complexity. The color is deep ruby, with hints of nutmeg, clove, cinnamon and sweet red cherries. For those of you who enjoy their Pinot Noir with multiple layers and dimensions, you’ll love this wine.
