Etude Wines
|
|
Etude began as a philosophy, not a place, although Tony Soter dreamed of one day creating a perfect home for his wines. That dream has become reality with the acquisition of a winery in Carneros. Transformed into a state-of-the-art facility for producing world-class Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, the winery consists of three beautiful masonry buildings, totaling 40,000 square feet, that occupy a picturesque setting just a few miles from Etude’s estate Carneros vineyard. The new winery was inaugurated with the 2003 harvest. “With the new winery, I have the luxury of more space, complete climate control, underground barrel storage, and custom fruit sorting and must transfer systems – everything I need to maximize the quality of Etude wines,” Soter says. “With these enhancements and the development of our estate vineyard, the future for Etude is very bright.”

Carneros Pinot Blanc
Precious in quantity, this wine is always revered for its mouth coating
viscosity balanced by a perfect snap of acidity. Subtle perfume of citrus blossom and green apples grace
the nose and lead the palate to bright notes of lemon meringue and kiwi fruit. Refreshing but far from
simple, this wine is an excellent accompaniment to summer dining.
|
Carneros Pinot Gris
Our mission is to produce a distinctive, highly enjoyable style of Pinot
Gris. An extrovert in a crowd of wines made from this variety that are often unnecessarily bland, Etude
Pinot Gris exudes exotic, attention-grabbing fruit aromas with a lush texture and pure flavors that invite
another sip. Unlike more delicate examples of Pinot Gris, Etude’s rendition is a good companion for
adventurous culinary explorations.
|
Carneros Pinot Noir
Our goal is to produce a distinctly styled Pinot Noir of the highest quality,
a wine that can satisfy any “Burgundian” urge and yet be proud of its California roots. Etude Pinot Noir
typically exhibits bright red fruit aroma, woven together with notes of cinnamon and sandalwood. The
palate is always supple and silky.
|
Carneros Rose Pinot Noir
Beautifully pink tinged in color, this wine is vibrant, aromatic in a refined
way and unusually persistent in flavor. The finish is mouth watering and juicy, like a crisp piece of fruit.
The perfectly balanced acidity makes this wine a wonderful complement to many foods.

Heirloom Carneros Pinot Noir
Classic cherry and black raspberry aromas with a subtle hint of chocolate
mint, gives a first impression that this wine is deep, juicy and dramatic. A heavyweight that fills the mouth
with waves of fruit, soft velvety tannins, and finishes with luscious opulence, the 02 Heirloom Pinot Noir is
big, balanced, and poised to age long and gracefully. It is certainly to be recognized as a California
“Grand Cru”.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
This wine certainly has the “wow” factor. Big, rich and intense aromas lead the palate to explosive and extracted layers of café au lait, chocolate covered cherries and hints of coconut. The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon exemplifies just how powerful this wine can be when the vintage allows for even ripening and extended hang time. This wine is mouth filling and satisfying in its youth, but will age gracefully for a long time to come.
|
Napa Valley Merlot
Bright, heady aromas of blackberries and cocoa lead to a concentrated and
lush initial taste of ripe plums, bittersweet chocolate and anise. Supple, with superb balance and fine tannins,
it displays layered complexity. The wine’s finish leaves a long, lasting impression of rich, ripe fruit backed
by hints of smoky spice. This wine, while extremely accessible in its youth, possesses excellent potential for
aging.

Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
Rich heady aroma of violet and lilac give a surprisingly exotic
introduction to this wine. In the mouth the wine is huge and immensely rich in extract. Layers of mocha,
Bing cherries and cassis and hints of the signature Rutherford dust wrap around the pallet, while notable
tannins provide the supporting structure to all this opulence. While wines of this style are traditionally
aged many years, it would be a shame not to enjoy this wonderfully ripe, young wine in the near term
before putting some away for the long haul. This is a collector’s wine.
