Founded as Corus Brands in 1998, Seattle-based Corus Estates and Vineyards (CE&V) is a family-owned producer of premium boutique wines exclusively from the celebrated wine-growing regions of the Northwest. The company traces its wine industry heritage back to 1958, when a group of 10 friends founded Associated Vintners in a Lauerlhurst garage. The group would go on to form Washington State 's first winery, officially changing the name to Columbia Winery in 1983. CE&V acquired Columbia in 1980, adding several other brands (Covey Run, Ste. Chapelle, Paul Thomas and Alice White) over the years. Seeing a market opportunity to create premium boutique wines, CE&V sold its various brands to industry giant Canandaigua in 2001. CE&V kept the Sawtooth Winery as well as its Northwest vineyard sites, setting aside several blocks of its highest quality fruit to create great wines under its own labels. The company believed that only by managing the entire winemaking process, from growing the grapes to producing and bottling the wine could it ensure the quality that it desired and its consumers demand. Today, Corus Estates & Vineyards sells premium boutique wines under several labels in three Northwest states, including: Washington State : Zefina, Alder Ridge, and Six-Prong Idaho : Sawtooth Winery, which also includes the retail operations; Oregon : Battle Creek, famous for its award-winning Pinot Noir
