Our owner and head brewer, James Howat, is a prolific homebrewer with a science background who has already modified several recipes dating from the late 1800s with cutting-edge twists. His wife Sarah, has a marketing background and will serve as the brewery’s community builder. Together, they plan to open what we hope will be “the most comfortable taproom in Colorado” – featuring reclining bar stools, couches, easy-chairs and a style that they describe as “retrofuturistic.” While the taproom will be comfortable, in no way will it be stuffy. We like to think of it as eclectic, sophisticated, and fun.
Customers will not only be comfortable, they will also be valued. The interaction between brewer and patron was direct and personal at local breweries in the late 19th century. Former Future will embrace the face-to-face conversations of old, but will also use new technology and social media in creative ways to allow customer input to drive decisions.
The tap room and brewery, slated to be open and offering beer by the pint or in growlers by fall of 2013, will offer a wide selection of beer. Former Future plans to have 8 taps flowing at all times, with four primary beers and four slots filled by seasonal or special releases. All of the main offerings are based around actual historical recipes or styles, but often use various modern additions or experimental techniques to make beers that are completely original.
