The Mash Tun was opened in 2005 by avid home brewer and neighborhood resident Christian Bravard. While living in the changing and ever growing Alberta Arts District, he saw an opportunity to combine his love of brewing with his many years experience in the restaurant industry to provide a friendly, comfortable place for locals to gather and enjoy great food and beer. Over the years, The Mash Tun Brewpub has become a popular destination not only for our neighbors but for folks all around Portland and beyond. We continue to hold true to the original concept of the pub and when you come by The Mash Tun you'll always find a casual and comfortable atmosphere, friendly service and great food and hand crafted beer.
We understand the importance of sustainable business practices and are committed to using fresh, local and organic ingredients whenever possible. In addition to traditional recycling, all of our used vegetable fryer oil is donated to our neighbors to be use for fuel. We donate all of our spent grains from the brewery to local farmers for livestock feed. Additionally, we are proud to purchase 100% Blue Sky renewable energy from Pacific Power which allows us to power our business as well as brew all of our house beer without the use of any fossil fuels what so ever...Nice!
