The Cabernet is produced from Dry Creek and Alexander Valley fruit, aged for two years in small, French oak barrels and given additional bottle aging before release. While in barrels, the wine receives very gentle handling with minimal racking. The intense, richly textured wine has a firm, tight tannin structure and layers of concentrated, fresh berry flavors with a long, elegant finish. Mazzocco Cabernets, while delightful upon release, continue to improve with additional aging.

Our premium reserve Chardonnay is made up entirely from our own River Lane Vineyards. Two blocks from our Alexander Valley Estate vineyard along the Russian River made up 50% of the grapes. The remaining grapes come from the Dry Creek Valley Estate vineyard. The rich river bed soils from Alexander Valley and the sandy loam from Dry Creek contribute to the unique-ness and quality of this special release. The 2001 Winemaker's Select Chardonnay is full bodied with vanilla and sandalwood in the nose, followed by flavors of green apple, pear, and bright citrus. This Chardonnay exhibits good acidity with a creamy, buttery, lingering finish. The wine, showing beautifully now, has great complexity due to the prolonged contact with the lees. It will continue to develop nicely.

The Chardonnay grapes were harvested between August 28 and September 17, 2001, at an average of24.0 degrees Brix. All of the juice was fermented in French oak barrels. Thirty-five percent of the barrels are new every year, with the remainder being 1 to 2 years old; 100% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation. The entire production was exposed to nine months of lees contact, with stirrings every other week for the first three months.

This Bordeaux style blend has an intense blackberry and chocolate nose with earthy overtones. Rich, intense, intricate and full-bodied character with spicy, berry fruits filling the mouth. The fin-ish is complex with nice tannins and good balance, which contributes to a long, lingering finish. Because 1999 was a complex, concentrated classic vintage, this Matrix will benefit from more bottle age.

This Bordeaux blend has intense blackberry nose with earthy overtones. Intense, intricate and full-bodied character with spicy, berry fruits fill the mouth. The finish is rich and complex, with nice tannins and good balance. This contributes to a long, lingering finish. Exceptionally drinkable now, the 1998 Matrix will continue to mature and develop over the next 5 years.

A special block of the Mazzocco Estate vineyards in the hillsides of Dry Creek Valley is the source for this reserve bottling. From pruning to harvest, this block was handled with extra care. The grapes were harvested October 8, 1999, with an average brix of 23.8. After fermentation with natural yeast, the wine was left on the skins for extended maceration. This refined wine was pressed and racked into small French oak barrels for 26 months, then bottled.

The grapes for our 2002 Sauvignon Blanc came from the Frank Johnson Vineyards along the entrance to the Russian River Valley. This is a dry-farmed, old-vine vineyard. Cool nights typical of the area add to the spicy, rich, citric flavors of this vineyard.

Mazzocco's vineyard manager Duff Bevill has been growing wine grapes in Dry Creek Valley since 1973, and his vineyard at the southern end of the valley is the source of the fruit for this wine. Bevill's knowledge and experience help him get the most out of the finicky Viognier grape, which needs to achieve complete ripeness - often difficult due to variable berry size - in order for the fresh, floral aromas and flavors to fully develop.

Seven small vineyards located in the Dry Creek Valley supplied the grapes for the 2000 Zinfandel. The age of the vineyards range from 9 to 89 year old vines, both head pruned and wire trellis systems. We work with each individual vineyard extensively to produce the best grapes possible.

Beautiful vibrant color accompanied by flavors of plums, dried fruit and hints of blueberry and pepper identify this old vine Zinfandel. Enjoyable to drink now and will continue to develop nicely for the next three years
