Viola Wine Cellars is a small urban winery in Portland, Oregon started by Darryl Joannides who has spent the past 20+ years immersed in Italian food and wine. Darryl's first Italian-inspired business was as Chef/Owner of Assaggio in the Sellwood neighborhood from 1995-2005. In 2006, he launched the full service retail wine shop, cork - a bottle shop, in the Alberta Arts District. Viola Wine Cellars was created in 2002 during harvest when Darryl worked as an intern for Andrew Rich Vintner at the inaugural year of the Carlton Winemaker's Studio. Viola become a full-time venture in 2012 and today production is located at the garage of the house Darryl shares with his wife, Sarah and their springer spaniel, Watson. The majority of the vineyards are located 60 to 90 minutes East in the Columbia Gorge appellation at vineyard sites with long-term contracts exclusive to Viola Wine Cellars.
