Ted Simpkins is the founder and co–proprietor of Lancaster Estate, overseeing all aspects of the winery. In 1994, Simpkins began Lancaster Estate with a vision of a classic, Bordeaux–style wine estate, a small family winery that would produce one wine created from estate vineyards planted and sustained in harmony with the land. With a penchant for Cabernet — the “king of the wine grapes” — Simpkins chose land suited to his vision and planted Cabernet–family varietals exclusively. Growing grapes from five related varieties, Lancaster Estate has the flexibility to vary the blend each vintage to produce the best possible wine. Simpkins began his career over 30 years ago as a wine and liquor salesman for Boston based C. Pappas Distributing before joining the world’s most prominent wine and liquor distributor, Southern Wine and Spirits, in 1971. Based in Miami, Simpkins quickly rose within the company’s ranks. In 1983, company chairman Harvey Chaplin gave Simpkins the opportunity to move to California to manage a fledgling distributorship. Simpkins’ goal for Lancaster Estate has always been straightforward: to strive for the very best. “There is no room in my life for complacency. Every day you have the chance to be a better person, a better manager or, if you’re truly blessed, to make better wine. Today, we make beautiful wine. As we grow and learn more about the land, we’ll improve the way we do things, and the wine will become even more beautiful.”

Heading North on 101 (scenic route):
Exit Shiloh Road and turn right. Follow Shiloh Road to Faught Road and turn left. Take Faught Road 1 mile to Chalk Hill Road. Follow Chalk Hill Road approximately 7 miles. Lancaster Estate will be on your left-hand side at 15001 Chalk Hill Road. One hour and forty minutes from San Francisco. Heading North (more direct route) on 101: Exit Dry Creek Road and turn right. Turn left at Healdsburg Ave. Turn right at Alexander Valley Road. Take Alexander Valley Road past Hanna and Field Stone Wineries. Chalk Hill Road is just past Field Stone. Turn right onto Chalk Hill Road. Lancaster Estate will be on your right hand side approximately 1 mile South at 15001 Chalk Hill Road. Heading South on 101: Exit Dry Creek Road and turn left. Turn left at Healdsburg Ave. Turn right at Alexander Valley Road. Take Alexander Valley Road past Hanna and Field Stone Wineries. Chalk Hill Road is just past Field Stone. Turn right onto Chalk Hill Road. Lancaster Estate will be on your right hand side approximately 1 mile South at 15001 Chalk Hill Road. From Napa Valley: Take Highway 29 through Calistoga to Highway 128. Follow 128 through Knights Valley. Soon after you enter Sonoma County you will turn left onto Chalk Hill Road. If you pass Hanna Winery you have gone too far. Lancaster Estate will be on your right hand side approximately 1 mile South at 15001 Chalk Hill Road. Forty minutes from St. Helena.

Lancaster Estate Red Wine
The 2001 Lancaster brims with aromas of wild berries, cassis, and violets. Ripe, black cherry and chocolate flavors, toasted oak nuances, and supple tannins combine to deliver our most balanced, bull bodied wine thus far. Bottled unfiltered and unfined on August 26, 2003.

Nicole’s Cabernet Sauvignon
The fruit source for 2001 Nicole’s Cabernet Sauvignon is chosen from the most favored lots of Cabernet Sauvignon, selected by our winemaker and proprietor Nicole Simpkins. For the 2001 Nicole’s Cabernet Sauvignon, they chose eight barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon and two barrels of their favorite Malbec, producing a mere 250 cases. Beautifully balanced in the mouth, this opulent wine is redolent with black cherry, plum, anise, chocolate, and tobacco. Long firm tannins complete the finish. Though ready for immediate enjoyment, the 2001 Nicole’s Cabernet Sauvignon will retain its complexity for another seven to ten years.

Roth Cabernet Sauvignon
This estate grown and bottled blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc delivers black cherry, plum and cassis flavors with distinctive spice and tobacco aromas. After 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new) and an additional 10 months in bottle, this powerful and juicy wine displays integrated tannins and a long length in the palate.
