Patton Valley Vineyards

Patton Valley Vineyards Our story was founded by Monte Pitt and Dave Chen in 1995. We met in the mid-1980s while attending business school in Chicago. In between classes, we found ourselves exploring Chicago's legendary wine shops and developing a passion for what we consider the world's finest wine: Pinot Noir. Having caught "Pinot fever," we pursued our dream of owning a vineyard and making wine. Our search led us to Oregon's Willamette Valley, where we purchased a 72-acre parcel with the ideal combination of soil, exposure and elevation. With the site for the vineyard in hand, we formed Cherry Hill, LLC, the parent company of Patton Valley Vineyard.

2002 Patton Valley Pinot Noir Lorna-Marie Cuveé
The 2002 Patton Valley Pinot Noir Lorna-Marie Cuveé is a limited-production, reserve-level Pinot Noir. Four barrels comprise the 2002 Lorna-Marie, with fruit from three separate blocks in our vineyard. Tasting: Deep garnet colored with a lively rim, pomegranate, red currants, flowers and spicy oak dominate the nose while a plush, medium bodied, well structured mouth-feel is full of finesse. The fine grained tannins carry the red fruits to a soft finish that goes on and on and on. Beautiful now, but will improve with cellaring, should last well into the next decade.
  Patton Valley Pinot Noir
Stylistically, this wine walks the line between 1999 and 2000 in that it has beautiful fruit like 2000, but is a bit more restrained, and excellent acidity and structure, like the 1999, but is a bit more accessible. Now starting to shed some of its initial hardness, the nose shows mocha dusted raspberries with earth and ginger. The attack has softened with velvet cherries and currants. Fine grained, smooth tannins give way to a berry-dominated finish. Approachable now, but additional cellaring will be rewarded up through the end of the decade. 803 cases produced, available.
  Patton Valley Pinot Noir
The 2002 growing season was ideal, or borrowing from Hollywood, it was as good as it gets. Mild spring weather, a good but not overly heavy fruit set, combined with very warm and dry conditions well through harvest produced the best vintage out of a stellar 5-year run from 1998. Our 2002 Pinot Noir mirrors that trend, being the most supple and complex Patton Valley Pinot to date. Here are Monte and Todd's tasting notes, "Rose petals, earth, soy sauce and red berries dominate the nose, with an underlying current of asian spice. In the mouth, it opens with an understated attack, the fruit bursting forth after a second or two. Fantastic, silky, lace-like tannins then share the stage with cherries and plums. The finish is very fine and persistent. Drink from 2004 to 2009." Only 630 cases produced.
  Patton Valley Pinot Noir
Another Silky Treasure Patton Valley Pinot's are made to show the supple character and silky texture of the variety. The challenge in 2003 was to avoid the over extraction and tannin imbalances seen in some Oregon wines from this very hot and dry growing season. Thankfully, our Laurelwood soils helped us beat the heat and allowed us to make an elegant and luscious wine, our most complex Patton Valley to date.On the nose, black cherries, raspberries, and dark chocolate with a touch of “Patton Valley” spice. In the mouth, the soft feel of rose petals, dark fruits and truffles. There is a persistent and well framed texture of ripe fruit and restrained oak. More forward fruitiness than the 2001 with more structure than the very opulent 2002. The finish echoes the lush, red fruits with impressive length and a soft reminder of its sense of place. Drinking surprising well now, this wine has the guts to develop into 2010 and beyond. $30, 1270 cases produced.
