A philosophy about liqueurs? Well, yes, and without sounding too highbrow it can be summed up in a single word: balance. Like the three legs of a well-balanced stool, essence, spirit, and sweetness are blended to achieve the perfect pitch. Or maybe like facets of a gem that are cut “just so” to achieve brilliance. Anyway, finding the right balance is one of the key challenges and rewards of being in the spirits business. On the left you can learn a little more about each of the core aspects of a liqueur.
The essence is the core flavor of the liqueur. Of course, it may have an important supporting cast that comes from other spices, the type of spirit used, or even the sweetener. The ginger liqueur starts with the amazing ginger roots we get from an organic farm in Peru. The freshly sliced ginger is spicy and bitter. This is where crafting the balance begins. The bitter is balanced with the sweet. The heat of the ginger and the heat of the spirit combine in a beautiful way that even we still marvel at. It is near magic and part of why it was chosen to be our first product. When the trifecta is balanced, we add spices to accentuate features of the ginger.
