Stevenot Winery

Stevenot Winery, one of California’s premier boutique wineries, is located in the Sierra foothills in Calaveras County in the heart of California’s Gold Country, an area which has been a respected wine grape growing region since the mid 1800s. Stevenot is proud to be part of a long and rich tradition of producing world-class wines in the Sierra foothills. 2001 Chardonnay Sierra Foothills
The Stevenot Sierra Foothill Chardonnay has been the benchmark for Sierra Foothill Chardonnays for many years, and the 2001 vintage is a wonderful example of the quality of fruit grown in the cooler areas of this region. 50% of the blend was barrel fermented in new Seguin Moreau and Nadalie American oak barrels, with the other 50% cool fermented in stainless steel to retain the exquisite apple and pear fruit flavors of the "vineyard footprint." Only 20% of this wine went through malo-lactic fermentation, resulting in a wine with very defined structure, balance, and finish. Silver, 2003 West Coast Wine Competition. Silver, 2003 Jerry Mead Grand Harvest Awards. Bronze, 2003 Sierra Foothills Wine Show. Bronze, 2003 Orange County Fair. Bronze, 2003 San Diego National Wine Competition

2001 Orange Muscat
This very intense dessert wine is packed with orange blossom and Muscat apple spice flavors. The wine has 14.0% residual sugar and 14.5% alcohol. The light acidity balances out perfectly with the high residual sugar. 750ml. Gold, 2002 Sierra Foothills Wine Show. Silver, 2002 El Dorado County Fair
|
2001 Stevenot Syrah
This is our 4th vintage from the Canterbury Vineyard here in Calaveras county. The 2001 growing season was a little cooler thus the grapes hung on the vine a little longer allowing the flavors to intensify. Fermented with a yeast strain from the Rhone Valley, this wine is bold and ripe in fruit character and easy to enjoy.
|
Costello Zinfandel
Every year we produce a small lot of Zinfandel from the Costello Vineyard, usually about four barrels or about 100 cases. This wine has been one of the favorites in our wine club and tasting room for years. The 2003 vintage is the best of all of them. This wine has great color and intense Zinfandel blackberry white pepper spice fruit flavors. Aged in new and used American oak barrels for 18 months, this is a big foothill Zin that is very limited due to the yields in the Costello Vineyard.

McGuigan Private Reserve Tawny Port
Tawny Port, whilst a Portuguese identity, has been made in Australia since the early 1840's. It is as much a part of the Australian industry as is the tradition of winemaking. Brian McGuigan has his own distinct style of Tawny Port due to the wonderful Shiraz fruit used. This "Solera System" started with a 17-year-old base topped up over the last 5 years. The average age of this non-vintage port is approximately 14 years.

Olivia Tempranillo
This festive dry rose is the perfect wine for summer parties and meals. Strawberry, strawberry, strawberry with a hint of kiwi.
|
Shepherds Ridge Sauvignon Blanc
Classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Delightful herbaceous flavors, with gooseberry and citrus notes. Texture is enhanced with a parcel of fruit undergoing extended yeast lees contact. Intense and vibrant.
|
Stevenot Barbera
Unlike Pinot Noir grapes, Barbera need lots of sunshine and warmth to ripen properly and the Dragone Ranch offers such a location. It is an Italian variety so think rolling sun-washed hillsides. Our second release of Barbera exhibits flavors of blackberries, ripe plum and currants. An elegant but massive wine with soft tannins and good acidity.
|
Stevenot Cabernet Franc
This is our fourth Cabernet Franc from the Rolleri vineyard just outside Murphys here in Calaveras County. It has great elegance and tannin structure combined with loads of blackberry spice and ripe plum fruit. Aged in American oak barrels for sixteen months prior to racking and blending with 18% Cabernet Sauvignon from our Estate vineyard, this wine will age gracefully for many years to come.
|
Stevenot Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 2001 vintage Cabernet Sauvignon displays layers of Sierra Foothill fruit intensity. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from three vineyards in Calaveras County and one in El Dorado County. The grapes from these vineyards were perfectly picked when ripe in September of 2001. Ripe blackberry with hints of leather and spice combined with oak vanilla. This Cab will reward patient cellaring but is also very enjoyable in its youth.
|
Stevenot Chardonnay
Our 2003 Estate Chardonnay exhibits bright pear and tropical fruit flavors combined with a rich creamy mouth feel. The wine was fermented and aged in American and French oak barrels for six months prior to blending. During aging we gently stirred the wine on its lees or yeast-sediment, known as sur-lie aging. This gives the chardonnay a rich and complex flavor. All of the grapes were grown on our Estate Vineyard located on the original Stevenot Ranch planted in 1978.

Stevenot Gabriel Cabernet
The 2001 Vintage is the 3rd release of this commemorative bottling of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine has huge flavors of cassis-blueberry and dark chocolate, combined with coffee and black cherry notes that are integrated into soft tannins and oak flavors from 26 months in American and French oak barrels. This year’s blend has 24% Merlot and 76% Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2001 growing season was a warm and dry year and produced a wine that is powerful yet elegant.

Stevenot Gabriel Chardonnay
This 2003 Vintage Gabriel Chardonnay, produced from our Estate Vineyard, was fermented and aged in New French oak barrels. This Chardonnay exhibits ripe integrated flavors of nectarine and spicy pear. This 25 year old Chardonnay vineyard is one of the oldest planted in the Sierra Foothills. Planted on its own rootstock it has very low yields and produces grapes with very intense tropical fruit flavors. The wine was aged on the lees in barrels for five months and 40% of the wine went through malolactic fermentation, then the barrels were blended and the wine was bottled in May 2004.
|
Stevenot Gabriel Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir, a grape variety from Burgundy which requires cool growing conditions, is known as the hardest grape to grow and is also the most challenging wine to make. In 2003 we picked our first 2.5 tons of perfectly ripened grapes and fermented them in small lots with 3 different yeasts. After fermentation the lots were pressed into new and one-year-old French oak barrels and aged for 12 months. A very seductive and classic example of why Pinot Noir is such a great wine to drink. Loads of wild berries, herbs and rose petals combined with light toasty vanilla and spice from the French oak barrels make a great debut for our first Pinot Noir.
|
Stevenot Merlot
From several vineyards in Calaveras and El Dorado Counties this 2001 vintage produced red wines of great finesse and intensity. The separate lots were aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels for 14 months prior to gently racking and blending. This is a Bordeaux style Merlot, with 12% Cabernet Franc blended in for added complexity and structure. Black-Cherry mocha fruit and cedar and vanilla flavors layered with soft tannins make this Sierra Foothill Merlot a bold expression of our local terroir.
|
Stevenot Petite Sirah
Our second vintage of Petite Sirah from the Broll Vineyard is a blockbuster wine of concentrated blackberry jam and blueberry fruit, combined with well integrated soft tannins. This wine was aged for six months in new American oak and then racked to four and five year old French oak barrels for an additional ten months of aging.
|
Stevenot Tempranillo
This vintage is a spice rack of cinnamon and blueberry with dark chocolate-mocha fruit flavors integrated with soft tannins. The 2002 Tempranillo was aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels for 18 months prior to racking and blending with 3% Graciano.
|
Stevenot Verdelho
Very bright floral apricot and apple flavors with a slight grassiness similar to a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Slowly fermented at a very cool temperature to capture all the varietal character from the Silvaspoons Vineyard. Verdelho is a Portuguese grape and very rare in the United States.
