Sunstone Vineyards and Winery is located forty minutes north of Santa Barbara and has one of the most beautiful wineries and tasting rooms in the Santa Ynez Valley. Sunstone's tasting room is reminiscent of some of the small wineries in the Provencal French countryside, featuring a kitchen complete with a wood-burning oven and two stone barrel-aging caves built into the hillside. The Rice Family farms their 78 acre vineyards in an organic, bio-sustainable manner, meeting all California Certified Organic Farmer standards.

2000 Grenache
Traditionally grown in the Southern Rhône of France, Grenache is partly responsible for the wines of Chateauneuf-du-pape and is a mainstay in the Rioja region of Spain. Our Sunstone Vineyards and Winery 2000 Grenache is a blend of 83% Grenache from the Cucamonga Vineyard in southern California and 17% Syrah from the Sunstone Winery Estate. Deep crimson yields to a brick red rim in the glass. On the nose this Côte-du-Rhône style blend weaves marzipan and eucalyptus with aromas of dried Bing cherries, licorice, and a slight hint of brown sugar. Cherries and cranberry develop with medium body in the mouth yielding to clove and a hint of vanilla and black pepper.
|
2000 Sunterra
On the front of the palate the Merlot shows soft, supple tannins and flavors of black cherries and raspberries. Melded together at mid-palate the Cabernet Franc adds mild blackberry and tobacco, and finally, the Cabernet Sauvignon offers black currant, cedar and spices to tie the blend together. Pop it open between May 2003 and 2006. A fantastic accompaniment with pastas, grilled chicken, jambalaya or peppered catfish. 51% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Franc, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon

2001 Merlot Santa Barbara County
A deep red ruby in color with garnet undertones and a violet rim. Aromas of chocolate covered strawberries and black cherry followed by light menthol, earth and vanilin oak. On the palate this Merlot displays dense black cherry, cranberry, black pepper finished by earth and spice with an vanilin background. This medium bodied unique Merlot is drinking very well now and will only structurally improve over the next five to eight years providing it is cellared properly.
|
2001 Muscat Canelli
Tropical fruit aromas of pineapple, passion fruit, and lychee nut are complimented by peach and pink grapefruit perfumes. Stone-fruit flavors of peach and apricot with tropical fruit essence combine on the palate to create an enjoyable wine with a fruity, lightly sweet finish.
|
2001 Syrah Estate
This 100% certified, organically grown Syrah Estate has a deep burgundy eye that is elliptically surrounded by a rainbow effect of gradated reds in the glass. Classic, California-like Syrah aromas of white pepper, stewed plums, and blueberry pie are decorated by the seemingly Rhone-like aromas of smoked meats. This wine will make an excellent match with smoked or grilled chicken, lamb, or wild game and would be exceptional with Indian curries. Although this medium-bodies Syrah is soft enough to drink in 2004, with proper cellaring it will soften and plateau in quality from 2005 to 2010.
|
2001 Syrah Reserve
The dark purple and vibrant violet hues visually justify the experience of this wine’s intense aromatics and flavors. Unlimited aromas of black licorice, blackberry compote, white pepper, cigar box, and earthy aromas are surrounded by a light veil of smoky cedar-spice. Layer upon layer of blackberry, raspberry, blueberry, eucalyptus, and clove climax into a jammy, smoky-oak, vanillin finish. This wine will make an excellent match with smoked or grilled chicken, lamb, or wild game and will pair exceptionally well with Indian curries.

2003 Chardonay Santa Barbara County
Pristine in clarity this Chardonnay also has a glistening, golden hue. Pear, apple, and guava andpineapple carry the bouquet of this wine while a hint of oak and vanilla add to the complexity ofthe nose. The palate expresses nice acidity and confirms the nose with the fruit flavors of passionfruit, guava, pear, apple, pineapple, and subtlety integrated layers of oak to enhance the fruit.Faintly sweet and smooth, a hint of oak makes for a long, pleasant, and persistent finish.
