St. Clement Vineyards
|
|
Born in 1906, Abbott Williams has led a life most of us only dream about. He has been a cowboy, war hero, entrepreneur, stockbroker to the stars and finally, thankfully for us, a pioneering Napa Valley grape grower. In the 1960s, before Los Carneros had gained the outstanding reputation it enjoys today, Abbott saw the potential inherent in the appellation's high pH, clay soils and cool, windswept terrain. With prescience, he planted 10 acres of Chardonnay and within a few years the owners of St. Clement were purchasing all of Abbott's fruit to produce a vineyard-designated Chardonnay. Today, in addition to the Abbott's Vineyard Chardonnay, we also produce an Abbott's Vineyard Merlot that's reminiscent of the great wines of Pomerol. Happily ensconced in a seniors' community in Napa now, Abbott still drinks a glass of wine everyday and courts the ladies with his real-life tales of romance and adventure.

Abbott's Vineyard Chardonnay
Barrel fermented in 30% new French oak barrels with 100% of the wine undergoing malolactic fermentation, the 2003 Abbott’s Chardonnay was aged for 11 months in the barrel with lees being stirred once a month creating a luscious mouth-feel and creamy texture. The nose of this wine is filled with honeydew melon, cantaloupe, peach, vanilla crème caramel, and candied walnuts. With intense flavors of red delicious apples dipped in caramel, pear blossom and honeysuckle with a creamy mouth-feel and crisp acidity, the Abbott’s Vineyard 2003 Chardonnay will age gracefully over time.

Abbott's Vineyard Merlot
In the nose there are concentrated aromas of red cherry, green apple, black pepper, fresh cut green beans, rose petals, clove and vanilla. The palate is filled with flavors of strawberry, raspberry, red delicious apple, boysenberry jam, cloves, allspice, and cinnamon. This full bodied wine has integrated tannin and structure that will give it longevity in the bottle.

Bale Lane Sauvignon Blanc
Intriguing aromas of gooseberries, green apples, honeydew melon, lemongrass, and kiwi. The crisp acidity is followed by beautiful flavors of cantaloupe, pear juice, and mango. The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and then prevented from undergoing malolactic fermentation to retain the freshness and minerality of this single vineyard wine. We then filled two Hungarian oak barrels with wine which adds a richness and layer of coconut and banana fruit flavors. Lingering flavors of grapefruit and orange blossom round out the palate on this crisp clean and refreshing Bale Lane Sauvignon Blanc.
|
Carneros Chardonnay
Pale yellow in color, this Chardonnay features aromas of lemon, ripe melon, pear and tropical fruit that transition to bright fruit flavors of citrus, apple and cantaloupe on the palate. A creamy mouthfeel of Kiwi, guava, vanilla and spice notes from the French oak combine with balanced acidity and a touch of minerality that prolongs the fruit flavors throughout a long, saturated finish.

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Pleasing notes of violets, blackberry, cherry and Chambord greet the nose of this single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon as aromas of cedar, black licorice, chocolate and roasted coffee linger in the background. With a rich entry of black cherry, blueberry and blackberry on the palate, the taste buds come alive with cedary, tobacco, hints of warm toast and spice from the 100 percent new French oak. Firm, yet supple tannins carry this concentrated wine through to a well-structured and long finish.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Blackberry, anise and coffee notes lead in the nose of the wine. In the mouth, notes of wild berries, cola, dark cherry and hibiscus are pronounced on the palate. This is a full-bodied wine with tremendous length and velvety tannins, supplemented by luscious vanilla and crème caramel accents from the 100 percent French oak barrels.

Napa Valley Merlot
Aromas of cherry, plum, cola and raspberry lead to flavors of sweet black berries and black plum mingling on the palate. This is a supple, luxurious Merlot, highly concentrated, with integrated tannin and structure. This full bodied wine finishes with hints of anis, black pepper and cherry jam. Ageing in 100 percent French oak barrels gives the wine an added softness of texture, as well as coffee, chocolate, and sweet vanilla notes that contribute to the length and the overall complexity of the finish.

Napa Valley Oroppas
Beautiful aromas of blackberries, cassis, currant, and dark chocolate smothered in a raspberry reduction sauce abound in this wine. The rich velvety texture and soft luscious tannins are supplemented by ripe red and black fruit flavors of strawberry and blueberry. Caramel, coffee, and vanilla flavors are supplied by the French Oak barrels that we use to age this wine. The wine has great fruit extraction of plums, wild berries, and cherry cola which coats the palate from start to finish.

Progeny Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
In Greek mythology, as punishment for stealing fire from the gods and giving it to man, Prometheus was bound to a rock high on a hill where a vulture feasted on his liver. During the cool of the night while the bird slept, Prometheus’ suffering temporarily abated, while his liver miraculously regenerated, but the next dawn brought the terrible cycle back. Favored by the gods, Hercules broke the shackles of the long-suffering Prometheus and killed the vulture.
Some say that it is Promethean volcanic rock that forms the slopes of Mt. Veeder, where today vultures warm their wings in the early morning sun before soaring over the bucolic Napa Valley below. From these elevated soils of mythical gods one finds Betty O’ Shaughnessy’s Progeny Vineyards and an unparalleled wine.

Star Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Legend has it that a siren once lived in the meadow of a paradisiacal island home surrounded by the garden Utopia of Star Vineyards, her song beckoned vineyard workers to her back porch to enjoy the sensual pleasures of her soft red wines, dulcet tones, and more than ample charms (only Odysseus, lashed to the mast, was able to resist her). To this day, few lured by the siren can turn away from the call of Star Vineyard’s Cabernet Sauvignon, singing of forbidden fruits, its hedonistic richness is balanced by elegance, charm, and the sweet embrace of black silk.
