Foris Vineyards

Foris Vineyards A visit to our winery explains our choice for the name FORIS. Latin for "out of doors", foris conveys the mood of the flowing rivers and lush, fir-covered Siskiyou Mountains which surround our vineyards. We are nestled in the remote Illinois River Valley of southwest Oregon.

  Barrel Fermented Chardonnay
Complex, bright aromas of citrus, stone fruits, and spicy oakiness. Full bodied, yet kept lively by the underlying acidity. The oak influence becomes evident on the palate as a subtle smokiness married to the creamier aspects of the flavor profile, with just a hint of toast on the finish. Still youthful, this Chardonnay should open fully within the next six months to further reveal the intense stone fruit and citrus character that has been its hallmark.
  Brut
This wine is comprised of 100% Chardonnay that has been aged on its lees for 34 months. The lighter, more elegant fruit in conjunction with the extended aging on the lees has resulted in aromas of yeast and mellowed, nutty Chardonnay, with citrus fruits, pears and minerals. The finish is surprisingly round and soft in the Brut style.
  Cabernet Franc
Starts out with interesting aromas suggesting mocha, a tight core of red fruits, minerals, and spice. Textbook Cabernet franc- chocolate and raspberries. Intense on the palate, with penetrating raspberries, franc spice, and fully ripened tannins. Focused structure with broad, lingering flavors. Tending towards the chocolate side of Cab Franc on the long finish.
  Early Muscat
100% of the fruit is Estate grown in the Gerber Vineyard adjacent to Foris Winery. Wonderfully fresh aromas of honeysuckle and peaches. Mouth filling, yet crisp and balanced. The flavors echo the peach nose, along with tangerines and a hint of slate. The finish is clean, semi-sweet, and long, leaving the sensation of having just bitten into a fresh peach. Enjoy sipping this wine cold on it's own or served with fruit and cheese, or richly flavored foods.
  Fly Over Red
Purple and black fruits on a currently tight nose with very ripe plums after aeration. These plummy flavors follow through to the palate where they are joined by blueberries and cassis liqueur. Medium to full bodied with fully ripe chewy tannins. Complex fruits, minerals and a well balanced intensity with a long creamy finish with just enough acid to keep it bright. Best with some aeration while still young.
  Fly Over White
Aromas of ripe, spiced apples with subtle hints of peaches and pears and a backbone of minerals and wet river rocks. Medium-light bodied... filling out with aeration. Racy on the palate, with firm acidity and a broad mid-palate. Again, ripe apples and peaches dominate the flavors with a wonderful mineral complexity that trails throughout the long finish.
  Gewurztraminer
Classic, pure aromas of lychee nuts, rose petals, and waxed lemons. Immediately spicy on the palate. Very ripe fruit stands out as almost sweet, though the wine is very dry. Dusty minerals and crisp acidity provide wonderful focus for this exuberant version of classic Alsatian Gewürztraminer. This will no doubt provide excellent drinking and increased complexity over the next few years with wonderful potential to further develop in the cellar.
  Grenache
Aromas of fresh, fully riped strawberries are immediately evident on the nose. Spicy flavors of raspberries and strawberries dance across a mid-weight elegantly dry palate. The nicely integrated acidity evident throughout the wine comes into focus on the long finish. A very versatile wine in the tradition of mediteranean rose for summer drinking.
  Klipsun Vineyard Cabernet Merlot
Aromas strongly suggest the Merlot portion of the blend for now- plums dominate the nose with hints of spice typical of Klipsun. On the palate the Cabernet becomes quickly evident as cassis, black liquorice and a hidden intensity buried amongst the lushness of the Merlot. Interesting hints of smoke, minerals and spiced fruitcake. Softer and more approachable than the 1998 version, most likely due to the increased percentage of Merlot. Balanced, elegant and showing every sign of a long life ahead of it.
  Maple Ranch Pinot Noir
Complex aromas of red cherries, Asian spice, smoke and minerals. With breathing, the aromas broaden to include darker cherry and plum flavors. Hits the palate as firm and focused in its youth, but with aeration it fleshes out nicely to coat the palate with a spectrum of concentrated and complex flavors. Hints of mocha, blueberries, cherries, and Asian spice with a subtle touch of smoky oak at the back of the mouth. Continues to add layers of complexity as it sits open. Balanced, elegant and of compelling interest, this wine is an excellent example of Southern Oregon Pinot Noir.
  Merlot
Fruit forward, almost candied aromas of red fruits. Very ripe and supple flavors and textures. Great balance between fruit and structure. Dense, but lively. Fully ripe plums dominate the flavors with hints of tobacco, earth and spice. Sweet-tart like cherry flavors assert themselves toward the finish. Subtle hints of anise complement the plum/cherry flavors on the lingering finish.
  Muscat Late Harvest
An intense nose of dried apricot and spiced figs leads into an explosively flavorful palate of fresh, ripe succulent fruit. While lush in every way, it manages to avoid being at all cloying finishing with moderate sweetness and crisp acidity. Excellent with a wide array of desserts - from chocolate to fresh fruit and cheese. 375ml
  Pinot Blanc
Lush aromas of honeysuckle and spiced peaches. Intense, spicy flavors of sweet stone fruits and minerals, though this wine is fermented completely dry. Medium bodied, creamy on the palate with well balanced acidity on the finish. Complex, lingering finish. An excellent example of an Alsatian style Pinot Blanc, this wine is versatile and elegant.
  Pinot Gris
Very fresh aromas of minerals and intense stone fruits. Sumptuous flavors of peaches and minerals on a medium bodied frame. Excellent framing acidity throughout. Vibrant and racy, this wine is structured in the traditional French Alsacien style rather than the lighter Pinot Grigios of Italy. Very well balanced, this wine will provide excellent drinking over the next few years.
  Pinot Noir
Aromas of lavender and purple fruits with a hint of underlying oak, spice and minerals. Big, mouth-filling texture with plenty of fruit, structure and tannins. Hints of mocha, purple fruits and spice on the palate. Certainly lush with young ripe fruit, yet the structure keeps it well balanced, silky even. Long, lush finish echoes mocha, spice, and purple fruits.
  Port
100% Cabernet Sauvignon produced entirely from the impeccably farmed Del Rio Vineyard near Gold Hill in the warmer eastern reach of the Rogue Valley AVA. Very rich aromas of sweet currents and raisins continuing on the palate where they are joined by brown sugar and bright black cherries on a moderately sweet, unctuous frame balanced by a subtle acidity. Hints of tobacco and mineral. Mouthwatering, lingering finish of currants, plums and raisins. This wine requires no further bottle aging, though it will be interesting to see what happens with age.
  Reserve Blend
Aromas of chocolate, blueberries and cherries with a hint of earthiness. Cherries dominate the flavors, along with hints of mocha, violets and well-balanced vanillin oakiness. Fairly tannic in its youth, this wine needs plenty of breathing time to show its true potential. Crisp acidity carries the fruit and mineral qualities into a long, complex finish. An excellent cellar candidate, though with aeration it shows signs of its true potential. (Sept. '04)
  Siskiyou Terrace Pinot Noir
Delicate, complex aromas of earth, dried fruit, rose petals and oak fleshes out nicely on the palate. Ripe, chalky tannins, soft acidity. Cherries with a suggestion of dark chocolate. Pleasantly tangy on the finish. More complex than powerful. Built for the dinner table
