LinCourt Vineyards

LinCourt Vineyards There’s an atmosphere of casualness at LinCourt Vineyards that invites you to kick back and relax. But don’t be fooled – we’re very serious about our wines and are extremely focused on our mission of creating wines that showcase the ideal grape growing conditions in Santa Barbara County! In 1994, Bill Foley and his family moved to Santa Barbara in search of a quieter lifestyle. As an entrepreneur and a collector of fine wines, it wasn’t long before he became intrigued with the quality of Santa Barbara wines and began to think about owning a winery. Bill purchased a majority ownership in the historic Santa Ynez Winery, which having been established in 1976 was one of the county’s first wineries. He renamed it LinCourt Vineyards after his daughters Lindsey and Courtney. With his years of experience managing complex corporations, Bill lost no time in retooling the winery. First, he put the right personnel in place, recruiting Alan Phillips from Byington Winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains to develop and direct the winemaking operation. To ensure that the wines receive the amount of detailed attention that they deserve, Alan is joined by winemaker Norman Yost. The next order of business was to obtain the best possible fruit that Santa Barbara County had to offer. Grapes for LinCourt’s wines come from the finest and most acclaimed vineyards in the county. “The year-round moderate temperatures, the long, dry growing season, and the diversity of the terrain enable us to create wines of extraordinary flavor, depth, and character”, according to Alan. With all the pieces in place, we made our debut with our 1997 wines. The initial release from LinCourt created a sensation in the wine world, with our Chardonnay being selected by Wine Spectator as one of its “Top 100” wines of 1999. “LinCourt wowed us not only with its price, but with explosive tropical fruit richness and polish unusual for a first release,” wrote Wine Spectator senior editor James Laube. Since that great beginning, we haven’t looked back continue to introduce wines of great character and value. LinCourt was originally located in the original Santa Ynez Winery location in Santa Ynez, but has recently moved to its ultimate destination on Alamo Pintado Road in Solvang, California. Originally a dairy farm, the property is a perfect complement to LinCourt wines and retains the rural charm and simplicity of an earlier era. The quaint tasting room is located in the former farmhouse, a 1926 Sears Craftsman kit home. The barns have been converted to cellars and barrel rooms, and equipped with modern winemaking equipment to allow for a handcrafted, premium vinification.

  Cab Sauvignon, La Cuesta Vineyard
A vineyard designated wine from Lincourt's estate in the Santa Ynez Valley. With a beautiful hillside exposure, the historic La Cuesta Vineyard was planted in 1973. Devoted to eight acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, this low yielding vineyard consistently makes wines of intense character. Aged in French oak for twenty-six months, the bouquet displays intense aromas of black cherry, plum, mulberry, tobacco, vanilla, and bittersweet chocolate. Full-bodied, the tannin structure is firm yet very approachable.
  Chardonnay, Bien Nacido Vineyard
Regarded as one of Santa Barbara County’s most acclaimed vineyard sites, the Bien Nacido Vineyard is located in the cool, coastal Santa Maria Valley. Lincourt sources fruit from the vineyard’s ultra exclusive U-Block where site-specific conditions yield grapes unmatched in character. Hand-picked in late September the Chardonnay was whole-cluster pressed, barrel fermented and aged in small French oak casks for 11 months. Golden in color, the wine offers distinct tropical notes of pineapple, mango and passion fruit, which mingle with caramel, vanilla and citrus in the bouquet. Replete in acidity, the body is creamy yet crisp with a long, lingering finish.
  Lincourt Sauvignon Blanc
The 2004 Lincourt Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from two distinct Santa Ynez Valley properties. The majority (70) of the blend comes from Lincourt’s estate vineyard, Alamo Pintado with the balance sourced from the La Pressa Vineyard. Vinified seperate from one another, the grapes from both properties were whole-cluster pressed, barrel fermented and aged in old French oak casks. Golden straw-like in color, the bouquet displays notes of green apple, white peach, mango, vanilla bean and macadamia nut. On the palate crisp, clean acidity is combined with a round and smooth, creamy texture.
  Pinot Noir, Santa Barbara County
The 2004 Pinot Noir, Santa Barbara County, marries fruit from both the Santa Maria Valley (Solomon Hills Vineyard) and from the Santa Rita Hills (Rancho Santa Rosa). A beautifully layered cuvee, each component was vinified separate from one another and blended together following 14 months of barrel aging in French oak casks. Crimson in color, aromas of cranberry, raspberry, wild cherry, and blueberry mingle with notes of baking spices, vanilla, cola and earth in the bouquet. Richly textured in the mouth the wine is soft, broad and elegant.
  Santa Barbara County Chardonnay
The Lincourt 2004 Santa Barbara County Chardonnay incorporates fruit from three select vineyards. The majority of the blend was sourced from the Santa Maria Valley with world-class fruit coming from the Bien Nacido and Solomon Hills vineyards, while the balance comes from the Santa Rita Hills AVA. Classic winemaking techniques further enhanced the Chardonnay, as the grapes were whole cluster pressed, barrel fermented and aged for 11 months in 60-gallon French oak cask. Fruit-driven in nature, the bouquet displays aromas of manderine orange, pineapple, pink grapefruit and mango are infused with notes of honeysuckle, vanilla, hazelnut and caramel. A clean wine, crisp acidity is coupled with round and creamy textures in the mouth.
  Syrah, Santa Barbara County
This full-bodied wine is layered with notes of fruit and spices, with aromas blackberries, blueberries, cherry, white pepper, vanilla and bacon exude from the glass. In the mouth, this complex wine is soft and round with firm tannins. This hearty wine pairs well with Grilled Pork Chops, Rack of New Zealand Lamb, Roasted Duck or even a country-style Fennel and Potato Tart. Que Syrah, Syrah!
  Vintage Reserve Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir from Santa Maria Valley is so wonderful due to the multitude of aroma characteristics it endows. The bouquet of the 2000 Vintage Reserve displays nuances of sweet cranberry, candied apples and raspberry, with notes of cola, vanilla and cinnamon spice. Full bodied and primed with moderate tannins, this unique wine is balanced and smooth in the mouth with a lengthy finish. Some great grilled pairings include Barbequed Port Tri-Tip with Horseradish, Garlic, Salt and Pepper rub, Grilled Salmon with Portobello Mushrooms and Grilled herbed chicken breast. We also like it with Cioppino. Enjoy now through 2008.
