Valentine Vineyards

Valentine Vineyards Valentine Vineyards is a small family-run winery in Southern Mendocino County, just a quarter of a mile from the Alexander Valley appellation. The vineyard was planted in 1976 by Rodney Strong with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Between 1975 and 1985, the vineyard was operated by Sonoma Vineyards which produced wine from the vineyard under the designation “Haehl Ranch”. In 1987, the vineyard was purchased by Bob Valentine and became Valentine Vineyards. Since the purchase of Valentine Vineyards, Bob Valentine has been busy at work both selling his grapes to outside wineries and producing his own private, award generating wines comprised of 100% Valentine fruit. The gold medals collected in amateur wine competitions over the past decade are both numerous and impressive. Triple gold awards are not uncommon in Bob Valentine's repitoire of amateur wine awards. After more than 19 years of personal bottling of Valentine private, family-label Cabernet, Valentine wine is now available for sale to the public. Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2002 marked the release date of Valentine Vineyards Echo Valley Estate 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon. This vintage represented our first commerical wine ever released. Today, we have over 5 wines available for public consumption as well as an additional 5 wines still in barrel. Although, this still represents a very small number of vintages, we are proud of our positive growth and progress.

Valentine Vineyards Echo Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
In our Echo Valley Vineyards, 2002 was an excellent vintage overall, with generous spring rains and optimum temperatures at harvest resulting in extended hang time and near-perfect ripening. A new selection protocol in the vineyard coupled with adjustments to our barrel mix (emphasizing the use of more French oak) resulted in what we believe is an excellent wine. In the words of one reviewer, Valentine Vineyards 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits “...excellent black currant flavors already blending nicely with the oak... (It’s) three dimensional and, although it is drinking remarkably well for its age right now, ...it should develop well over at least the next two to three years” (John Walter, London).
Valentine Vineyards Echo Valley Estate Merlot
We’ve been growing award winning Merlot since 1987. In 2003, winemaker Mike Officer determined we’d waited long enough to bring these beautiful berries to the next level. The result is our premier release of Valentine Vineyards Merlot. A beautiful balance of Merlot’s seductive charm and velvet-gloved power. This wine will show the Merlot-adverse the error of their ways.
