Sans Soucy Vineyards

We are a small family-owned and operated farm winery located in the historic tobacco country in Brookneal, Virginia just minutes away from Red Hill (Patrick Henry’s last home and resting place) and within a 30 minute drive of historic Appomattox and the cities of Lynchburg and South Boston. In addition, we are conveniently located less than two hours from Charlottesville, Farmville, Bedford, Roanoke and Danville, Virginia. The winery and tasting room are located in a century old restored barn and school house with all the original wood work. We grow a variety of vinifera and hybrid vines on 5 acres and we have an additional acre planted with heirloom apple trees. Our first planting was in 2003 with our first crush in 2006. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the vineyard pond with geese or sit on the patio overlooking the vineyard. OPENING SPRING 2008

Blackberry Wine
A classic southern, country wine
fermented and sweetened in the
traditional manner. Our simple and
minimalist approach emphasizes
the unique flavors that has made
blackberry wine a favorite for
generations. This wine is crisp,
fruity and sweet. Delicious as a
dessert wine or with your favorite
game meal. Combine a measure
of this wine with ice, a slice of
orange and Perrier for a great and
refreshing summer treat.

Cabernet Franc
Another classic French Bordeaux
style grape that is a traditional
favorite of red wine lovers; We aged
this fruit-forward wine in French oak
barrels for 18 months: half in new
oak and half in old oak. It is ruby
red in color – almost jewel like
when held up to the sun! The
bouquet is clearly fruity with cherry
being most prominent but not so
strong as to prevent the soft vanillin
tones to peak out. The acids and
tannins are nicely balanced
allowing a succession of flavors to
evolve as the wine moves over the
tongue. Cassis, berry, and ever so
slight a touch of pepper reveal
themselves slowly as the wine is
sampled. Again it seems that our
terroir imparts more delicate flavors
of vanilla, chocolate, tobacco and
cedar. This wine is versatile and
easily pairs with a variety of foods:
from light meals to hardier pasta or
fine steaks. Great to simply enjoy
by itself when served at cellar
temperature.

Gold Leaf Traminette
This wine has a beautful bouquet
and the name says it all. The
characteristics are the same as
our dry Traminette except it is
slightly sweet. For those who
enjoy sweeter wines you will love
this one. Whether you pair with
food such as fish or veal it
contrasts harmoniously with
spicy ethnic foods.

Gwyn Ruh
This is a blend of our best
Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
We selected wine aged for at
least 18 months in a variety of old
and new oak barrels. The color is
deep red. The margins are sharp
and clean. When you raise the
glass to your nose, you get a
smooth, delicate and low key
blend of aromas. The vanillin
tones from the oak aging is
pleasant but not forward. As the
wine moves over your tongue you
detect cherry, black currants and
spice. Nutty tones followed by a
slightly peppery finish. The
mouth feel is full and bold. The
tannins give the wine a solid full
mouth feel. This wine is simply
GOOD! Great with a bold steak,
spring lamb or any fine cuisine
that needs a sophisticated
partner. Limited Quanties

Oak'n Berry
This wine combines the crisp
flavors of our blackberry wine with
a full-bodied and lightly oaked
Petit Verdot red wine. The cherry
and dark chocolate tones of the
Petit Verdot joins with the
blackberry flavors to create a
“transitional” red wine. Less
sweet than our blackberry wine
but enhanced with Bordeaux style
grape flavors. The smoother,
more round, complex tannins of
our Petit Verdot wine broaden the
food pairing possibilities of this
unique blend.

Petit Verdot
Love at first sight! A dark, full-
bodied red wine yet crisp and sharp
in color. Aged in French oak barrels
for 18 months. Petit Verdot is a
classic French Bordeaux style
grape whose potential is being
redefined by Virginia’s Southern
Piedmont soil. Our rich, clay soils
famous for growing some of the
finest tobacco, coax dormant flavors
from this grape. The wine is gently
acidic with soft and balanced
tannins. Our PV teases the palate
with tones of Vanillin, dark
chocolate, black cherry, cassis and
even a hint of tobacco. The nose is
lightly vanillin and fruity but also
suggests aromatic hints of
sandalwood and cedar, all of which
is confirmed in the smooth finish.
This classic style wine is great with
fine steaks, pasta, or classic
French cuisine, but bold enough to
handle spicier Mexican food. If you
want a special treat try this wine
with some European style semi-
sweet chocolate while relaxing by a
cozy fireplace!!

Rose
This iconoclastic blend of the
wonderfully aromatic and flowery
Viognier with the complex, full
bodied Petit Verdot creates a truly
pleasant and versatile wine. Bright
and clean, the Persimmon hues
remind you of the warm soft glows of
a summer sunset. The initial
impression when smelling the wine
is a hint of rose and nutty spice.
Slightly citric with mild tones of
apricot and pear, the Viognier is
beautifully balanced with the more
subdued and mature Petit Verdot.
This 90/10 blend is lightly
sweetened which allows all the mild
fruit flavors to shine through without
too much tannin. This wine is truly
versatile. Great with seafood,
traditional cheese platters, or fruit
such as melon and pears. Serve
chilled.

Traminette
This Gewürztraminer hybrid
produces a wonderfully spicy and
aromatic amber colored grape. We
slowly fermented this wine with oak
at low temperatures. The wine has
been aged in stainless steel tanks
since the completion of
fermentation. The resulting wine is
aromatic, crisp and slightly acidic.
The rose bouquet first noticed when
smelling the wine slowly fades into
a citrusy and spicy aroma
reminiscent of kiwi or light
grapefruit. Often made as an off-dry
wine, we chose to keep our
Traminette dry, crisp and bright.
The result is a wine that pairs
wonderfully with fish, fowl and other
light fare. When chilled, it is a great
pool-side, summer drink.

Viognier
This grape is quickly making its
mark in Virginia and giving
Chardonnay a run for its money!
The bouquet is floral and fruity.
Our micro climate highlights a
delicate orange blossom scent
that occasionally drifts into a
delicate wild rose. The color is
a sharp, clean and crisp clear
yellow mist. This wine is great
as a stand alone refreshment
but it really shines when it
accompanies classic seafood
delicacies. This wine is
destined to be a perennial
favorite.
