Crocker & Starr Wines

Crocker & Starr Wines Crocker & Starr Wines is a partnership between a historic vineyard site and a winemaker focused on producing distinctive wines of this unique place. In 1997, Pam Starr created this partnership to capture the essence of terroir in her wines – the soil and environment in which the fruit ripens. The Crocker Vineyard, where grapes have been grown since the 1870’s, is located on the south side of St. Helena, bordered by Mills and Dowdell lanes. The most celebrated Bordeaux varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc are grown in varying soils that gradually change as the terrain gently slopes towards the Napa River. So far, 9 acres have been successfully replanted using a variety of rootstocks and clonal selections that best match the soil.

  Cabernet Franc
The 2002 was an absolutely fantastic vintage for forward, juicy concentrated, age-worthy yet approachable wines. You can have it all with this one! Beautiful aromas and flavors unfold in layers: violets, blueberry, raspberry, cardamom and tobacco spice are all there in great Cabernet Franc fashion. The amazing quality about Cab Franc is that the flavors persist for a very long time after its powerful burst of flavor. This is one of the traits that make Cab Franc an amazing food pairing wine or a wine to simply enjoy.
  Cabernet Franc
The 2001 Cab Franc is truly an exotic wine: powerful aromas of violets, raspberry, sandlewood, cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg dominate. There is a dense core of ripe fruit bursting with layers of character – vibrant flavors of blueberry, raspberry and brown spices dominate the foreground and explode into greater intensity through the long, lush finish.
  Cabernet Franc
The 2000 vintage started cool and late which led to an anticipated later than usual harvest. The variable summer weather and dry season accelerated the ripening of the fruit and allowed us to harvest, almost to the day, as we did in 1999. The 2000 Cab Franc is a powerful and exotic wine: aromas of blueberry, violets, sandlewood, cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg are prominent. The flavors are a true expression of the aromas: a big mouthful of ripe berry fruit, spicy and with great length and intensity.
  Cabernet Franc
This 2003 Franc is absolutely forward, in your face aromatic……. Exotic spices like cardamom and candy spice, purple violets with outrageous blueberry/raspberry compote. I’m really proud of the fact that these “teenager” vines (14+ years old) performed their duties to ripen the very small crop of 2003 Franc to maximum richness and character. I love how this wine is a myriad of flavors and aromas – Franc is the spice of life!
  Sauvignon Blanc
The 2004 growing season was relatively mild and finished with a classic Napa warming trend. Yields were very low, resulting in earlier ripening and rendering concentrated delicious Sauvignon Blanc characters. This wine grabs your attention with forward aromas of lime, exotic citrus blossoms, minerals and guava. Mouthwatering flavors of lime, meyer lemon, guava, and….. due to the nature of our special clone of Sauvignon Blanc……the wine finishes with the richness of white peach.
  Stone Place
The 2002 Stone Place has complex aromas of ripe blackberry, cassis, dark chocolate and exotic spices that lead you to truly blockbuster flavors and savory richness on the palate. The rich long finish evokes not only the power of the vineyard but also the finesse of the blend. The wine spends 19 months aging in the barrel and an additional 13 months in the bottle before it is released. This is the best Stone Place yet from these old vines!!
  Stone Place Cuvee
This 2001 has a deep brooding entrance, slightly shy at first – a good decanting unlocks the exotic dark chocolate, cassis, and exotic Asian spices in the aromas. The concentrated characters from the old See clone Cabernet Sauvignon are complimented by the more forward aromatics of the old vines Merlot yielding this wine a seamless finish. The concentrated and distinctive flavors of ripe black cherry laden with vanilla, laced with nuances of graphite, black licorice and earthy coffee notes unfold as the wine is swirled. An impeccably balanced wine.
  Stone Place Cuvee
Truly terroir - this 2000 Stone Place Cuvée is the fourth release of this Bordeaux blend. This wine is “harnessed power” – concentrated, serious vinous qualities spun together in an elegant and balanced presentation. Deep effusive aromas of cassis and blackberry are complimented with exotic brown spices and dark chocolate. Layers of flavors unfold as the wine opens in the glass. Incredibly balanced with an intensity that promises to evolve over the next decade.
