Local Group Brewing

As long-time coworkers, Todd Donewar and Michael Steeves shared an interest in all things beer. They enjoyed hanging out together, trying new brews at home and at the local pubs. Eventually, the two started home-brewing, and in 2016, at Under the Radar, they brewed up a plan: They would start their own brewpub. It would be a place where friends, family, and pets alike could hang out, drink great beer, and eat good food. While Todd and Michael’s home brews were very drinkable, they decided to up their game and put out a call for a head brewer with experience, talent, and creativity. Meanwhile, James “Huggy Bear” Wolfe was working as brewer for Southern Star with similar visions of a new, local brewpub in mind. Huggy heard the call, and then there were three.
Local Group Brewing (1504 Chapman Street) is a friendly neighborhood brewpub, pulsing out creative, small-batch beers and thoughtful bites made with locally sourced ingredients, all while placing a high importance on service to their customers and the growing community. The owner-run brewpub’s name has a double-meaning; it directly refers to the local group of galaxies due to the team’s love of space and science, but it’s also a nod to their focus on local; supporting and collaborating with local businesses, including other breweries, whenever possible. On-site and street parking is available. The brewpub’s hours of operations are Tuesday through Thursday, 3 - 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., with brunch available exclusively on Sundays.
