2001 Glen Fiona Basket Press Reserve Lot 57
The Most Rhône-like of Glen Fiona's stable of Syrahs, the 2001 Basket Press Reserve is a nod to the old world vinification techniques. The wine contains Syrah, Cinsault, Counoise, Grenache and Viognier. Discrete nuances of saddle leather, bacon fat, licorice and maple are integrated into the cherry fruit and black peppercorn spice. The vines for the Basket Press Reserve are dry-farmed in rivervine, cobbly loam soils, and as such are low-yielding. The Cinsault component is from the oldest vinifera block in the Walla Walla Valley. This vin du Gard is not intented for early consumption, but will greatly reward the patient Rhône enthusiast who lovingly cellars it for a few years.
