Lone Star Wine Cellars
|
|
Lone Star Wine Cellars was started
by three friends from McKinney
who felt that the wine industry was
under exposed in Collin County
and McKinney, Texas. In 1997, John Wales planted the first commercial vineyard in Collin County and subsequently built the first commercial winery, which was completed in spring of 2003. John has been working with the Texas A&M Agricultural department and the State Agricultural department to learn the mechanics of the vineyard and to grow the grape industry throughout the State of Texas. In 2000, Ron Ross in Dexter, Texas built the Triple ‘R’ Ranch & Winery, as a small boutique winery. Ron gained his winemaking knowledge by making wine in New York during the eighties. His “born again” hobby was also enjoyed by Gary Konke. Ron and Gary worked to produce a small amount of wine that several of their friends seemed to thoroughly enjoy.
