Tin Barn Vineyards
|
|
Tin Barn is the fruit of three friends' passion for the grape. Our wines are crafted from vineyards specifically chosen for their unique soils and optimal growing locations. High atop the ridges of the Sonoma Coast, near the intersection of King Ridge Road and Tin Barn Road, is a tiny Syrah vineyard called Coryelle Fields. From this distinctive and rocky location we not only derived inspiration for our name, but also gained our first vineyard source for grapes. In addition to this unique vineyard, Tin Barn produces Cabernet Sauvignon from the hills above Lake Sonoma and the hills east of Rutherford in the Napa Valley. Our Russian River Zinfandel is sourced from a 30+ year old vineyard near Windsor, in Sonoma County and our Napa Zinfandel comes from a 30 year old dry farmed vineyard in Chiles Valley. In 2004 we released our first Sauvignon Blanc, from the Bennett Valley region of Sonoma County. Tin Barn Vineyards is a collaborative effort of winemaker Michael Lancaster and his two partners, Gray Fowler and Carl Stewart, whose dream to make wine came together in the "Tin Barn"!

Cabernet Sauvignon Napa
Volker and Liesel Eisele’s vineyard is located in the Chiles Valley district of Napa Valley. The fruit for our wine comes from a block that Volker and his son, Alexander, have replanted with the ‘See’ and ‘Tokalon’ clones of Cabernet Sauvignon and smaller amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The wine is a medium deep purple with lovely clove, spice and berry notes in the nose. It has a soft tannic structure resulting from the Merlot and Cabernet Franc and finishes with a nice touch of toasty French oak.

Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma
Tombs Creek Vineyard is located six miles down a dirt road west of Lake Sonoma and sits on the side of a mountain above 1000 feet elevation. Vineyard owners Peter Beall and Solange Van Der Moer are passionate about the very intense fruit that they supply to us. The 2002 vintage is dark red in color, has deep blackberry fruit flavors and a solid tannin backbone with a chocolate nuance on the finish. The wine has great potential for aging.

Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma
Marie and Peter Young's vineyard is located in the Bennett Valley sub appellation of Sonoma County, between Santa Rosa and the Sonoma Valley. The Sauvignon Blanc block of 2.6 acres is planted to the Rauscedo clone 3.
The 2004 vintage has lovely melon and citurs aromas and a vibrant and crisp palate. The Rauscedo 3 clone provides a fragrant touch to the nose.

Syrah Sonoma Coast
Carolyn Coryelle’s vineyard is located in the coastal hills east of Jenner and Fort Ross above 1000 feet elevation, and provides Tin Barn with a unique source of California Syrah. Carolyn has planted both a meadow and a hill block. The 2002 vintage has a small percentage of grapes from the hillside. The wine has a deep purple color and displays some of the same smoky/meaty characteristics of Syrah from the Northern Rhone region of France. This Syrah has a long finish on the palette that is enhanced by the seamless integration of new French oak barrels.

Zinfandel Napa
The 2003 Tin Barn Zinfandel, Napa Valley, Dalraddy Vineyard, is the second release of this wine for Tin Barn. Charlotte Williamson's dry farmed vineyard is over 30 years old and is located in the Chiles Valley District of Napa Valley, in the hills east of Rutherford. This wine is brimming with ripe cherries and spicy fresh white pepper. The wine has a long finish that is capped off with a touch of sweet vanilla from the new American oak barrels.

Zinfandel Sonoma
Our Russian River Zinfandel is sourced from the Gilsson Vineyard near the town of Windsor. In 2004 the owners of the Jensen Lane Vineyard changed the name of the property to Gilsson Vineyard. This is the same 30 plus year old vineyard block that Tin Barn has been sourcing its' Russian River Zinfandel from since we started in 2000. Only the name has changed! The 2003 vintage contiunes the tradition of this wine with forward raspberry and cherry fruit and a long, seductive finish topped off with a hint of vanilla and toast from the new American oak barrels.
