Our name is often mispronounced, but you can be certain you are saying it correctly if it rhymes with "Momma V." When pronounced that way, we have learned that it has a second meaning in Latin: I have loved! We are a sister winery to the prestigious Pepper Bridge Winery, which is also located in the Walla Walla Valley. We use the term "sister" because we share the same winemaker (Jean-François Pellet) and estate vineyards (Seven Hills, Pepper Bridge and Les Collines), but we utilize different vineyard blocks and winemaking styles. Our first vintage was in 2001, and the critics have been kind to us thus far. Tasters from all over the country keep mentioning our wines as having terrific quality and great prices. Please come visit us! Our tasting room is a unique reconstruction of a turn-of-the-century log cabin that Partners Ray and Diana Goff saved from demolition. Our tasting room manager Patty Wondra would be happy to share with you samples of our current releases.

Amavi Red
The Amavi Red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a little bit of Syrah and Malbec. Softly textured with layers of ripe berries, cocoa and spice, this wine is supple with delicate hints of toasted oak. It was aged in a combination of French (74%), American (17%) and Hungarian Oak. The fruit is from the Walla Walla and Columbia Valley appellations.

Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 2% Syrah and 1% Malbec. The Cabernet Sauvignon is the backbone of the blend, adding structure and body, while the Merlot adds flavor and depth. The small amount of Syrah increases the overall softness while the Malbec adds a nice earthiness component. This wine is integrated, complex and well-structured, yet soft and appealing throughout. The wine is pleasantly aromatic with the essence of rose petal, ripe berry and a light earthiness. Flavors of dark fruit, cassis and mint are followed by hints of mocha, chocolate and spice.

Sémillon
Our 2004 Sémillon is a sophisticated mix of pineapple, ripe pear, a hint of citrus, honeydew melon and mineral flavors. Intensely rich and creamy, it finishes with a lively acidity, giving the wine a beautiful balance We carefully hand-harvested our 2004 Sémillon grapes, then gently whole-cluster pressed, settled, and barrel-fermented in 100% used French Oak and aged sur lie with minimal stirring for 7 months prior to bottling.

Syrah
At Amavi Cellars, we have chosen to focus on Syrah wines which showcase the extraordinary quality and the unique, concentrated, fruit flavors of Pepper Bridge Vineyard and Seven Hills Vineyard, our Walla Walla Valley estate vineyards. Over the years, these estate vineyards have consistently produced grapes used by other Washington winemakers to produce Syrah wines of exceptional complexity, balance and concentration. Amavi Cellars’ 2003 Syrah is packed with violets, blueberry and dark plum aromas, backed up by subtle flavors of smoked meats with hints of black earth, spices, coffee and mineral. The wine has fine-grained tannins and well-embedded acidity, which work together to create a tremendously long finish and a real depth and distinction. The summer of 2003 was consistently warm from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The grapes ripened evenly, showing an incredible balance of fruit and acid. The grapes were carefully hand-harvested, sorted and individually fermented in small stainless steel tanks. The wine aged 17 months in 64% French oak, 22% Hungarian oak and 14% American oak.

Syrah
Our 2004 Syrah shows off intense aromas of violets and berries with delicate hints of mineral, particularly graphite. Flavors of smoky, cured meats and huckleberries slide into a savory, lingering finish. The structure is solid, providing a well-balanced wine that is quite elegant.
