O'Brien Estate Winery
|
|
O'Brien Cellars started as a romantic dream when my wife Barb and I came to Napa on our third date in 1987 (we were married in 1988). We fell in love with each other and she said that she "dreamed of owning a vineyard in Napa someday". We bought our 40 acre vineyard and winery in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley in 2000.

2004 Merlot
"O" Merlot is handcrafted from grapes grown in our vineyard in the Oak Knoll district of Napa Valley. A beautiful deep ruby color is the first indication of the depth of the wine. The aroma/flavors include blackberry, plum, and cherry liqueur with hints of leather and herb (as a positive for complexity), follow through with shadings of coffee and bakers chocolate finishing with sweet toasty oak. The flavors layer nicely slowly revealing all of the subtleties. This vintage of our estate Merlot can be enjoyed immediately for it’s freshness and intensity, but will only improve with further bottle age through at least 2015. 2004 Seduction Bordeux-style blend
Winemaker
David Yorgensen, our winemaker, worked with renowned winemaking consultant Philippe Melka at Seavey Vineyard. David joined us as our full time winemaker in 2004 to complete the aging, blending, and bottling of the 2004 vintages and has been responsible for all aspects of winemaking and cellar management since then. Our vineyards are managed by Pina Vineyards, who also manage Bryant Family and Gemstone vineyards. We do not use any pesticides or herbicides in our vineyard.
Tasting Notes
The great color of the 2004 Seduction leads to rich layers of blue and black berry fruit, accents of mocha and vanilla tinged oak, framed with satiny tannins. This wine is nicely fruit forward while retaining good balance in a strikingly elegant wine. This wine will age well for 10 years or more.
Wine Information
Seduction is a proprietary red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot from the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley appellation. 92 Points - Wine Enthusiast Robb Report - Private Cellar Collection Recommendation

Chardonnay
Our goal with our estate Chardonnay is to craft a wine of natural acid balance that is fruit forward and expressive of our land and what nature gives us each year. The light straw color of the 2005 chardonnay exhibits aromas of pear, apple, melon and almonds that layer with flavors of fig, tropical fruits and spice in a full-bodied, round and creamy chardonnay with good acidity, a subtle touch of spicy oak, and a long finish. This wine is a splendid accompaniment to a wide range of foods, even spicier dishes, or is equally enjoyable to just sip on its own. It will provide its best drinking over the next two years.
