Hinnant Family Vineyard

Winemaking has been a tradition for years at Hinnant Family Vineyards. Since the first vines went into the ground in 1971, the Hinnant Family has dedicated years to cultivating and maintaining the largest Muscadine vineyard in North Carolina. Over the years, the Hinnants have been no strangers to amateur winemaking. But it was not until the spring of 2003 that the Hinnants started producing wine commercially. Father and son team, Willard and Bob Hinnant, made a dream a reality. With a lot of patience, many late hours at the winery, and a host of family and friends lending a hand whenever they could, Hinnant Family Vineyards is already producing award-winning wines. The road to success has been, at best, long and grueling. With Willard and Bob both having other careers -- Willard being a dentist and Bob owning a dental lab -- the switch from teeth to wine has been very interesting.
Hours: Tue-Sat, 11 am-6 pm; Sun, 1-5 pm.

Directions
Johnston County - From Hwy 70, exit north on Peedin Road. Follow signs to vineyard 3 miles on right. From I-95, take exit 97 to Hwy 70 East. Travel 3 miles to second stop light. Turn left on Peedin Road. Follow signs to vineyard 3 miles on right.

Norton Wine Review: Though Hinnant Family Vineyards, near Raleigh, “specializes” in muscadine type wines, they did offer a Chardonnay and an $11 Norton. Now we have the dilemma of what to say about this Norton wine without being caustic. As a former military pilot, I did like the label portraying a Wright Flyer making its way somewhere over the Outer Banks. The nose bouquet highlighted the barnyard flavors.
