Lakeshore Winery
Lakeshore Winery is owned and operated by John and Annie Bachman, who purchased the property in June of 1994 from the winery's founders, Bill and Doris Brown. John and Annie are committed to continuing the traditions established by the Browns. Essentially those traditions mean making a variety of wines of the highest quality; providing a fun, relaxed and educational tasting room experience; and having a good time doing it.
The winery is located on a farm that dates back to 1825. It's an ideal site for growing grapes. Proximity to the deep waters of Cayuga Lake provides enough tempering effect to enable the European (Vitis vinifera) grapes to thrive. The original barn provides a unique setting for receiving visitors, with a spectacular view of the lake. There is even a dock for boaters to visit the winery.
Bill and Doris purchased the property in 1978, and immediately planted Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, and Cabernet Sauvignon vines. The first vintage was in 1981, and they began selling wine in 1982. All of our grapes come from our own vineyard or neighboring Finger Lakes vineyards.
