Blue Mule Winery

We started out, like most, making homemade wine in five gallon carboys. We still joke about how the bathtub was stained purple from crushing grapes! We liked the challenge of making several different wines from locally grown grapes and fruit that people would enjoy. At one point we had eighty gallons fermenting in sixteen carboys! It was time to take the show on the road, and for three years prior to opening Blue Mule Winery, we made wine for another local winery. Ashley convinced me that it was time to leave and start our own winery and promised that if I made it she would sell it! So here we are growing, picking, crushing, pressing, fermenting, ageing and bottling all by hand....did I mention tasting?
I'm primarily the winemaker, but every good winemaker has a sidekick and that's my daughter Ashley's role. I know the math and the chemistry, and she has the palate. Together we make some award winning wines! I'm usually in the back of the Tasting Room running tests and checking the wine, but you can guarantee when you walk through our door you'll be greeted by Ashley's big smile (she gets that from her mom).
The Tasting Room is set on a hill north of Fayetteville, just two miles from Warrenton. It's a farm for sure, so you'll see our 60+ free range chickens, 6 alpacas, 5 donkeys, the vineyard and Two Old Farm Hands, Beth (my wife) and Delores, aka Mimi (my Mother-in-law). All joking aside, those two ladies keep the farm running like a well oiled machine. You'll see them whizzing around on their golf carts getting business done! We are just a hard working family striving towards the same goal: to make a living by sharing our great wine with Texas and whoever visits this great state. So, come to our tasting room, drink wine, listen to stories, make new friends (furry and feathered alike) and stay a while. There's a stool waiting for you!
