Lailey Vineyard

Lailey Vineyard Although the winery is new, It's history in the Canadian wine industry going back to 1950's when William Lailey ( a pioneer of Canadian viticulture)planted and propagated some of Niagara's first French hybrid varieties. 1970, Donna and David Lailey purchased the land and began a steady transformation of the 20-acre farm into a vineyard. Their high quality grapes were sought out by many wineries. The Laileys decided in the early 1980's to process their grapes themselves. They bought a juicer, screw press, and tanks and began to sell juice and grapes directly to home winemakers. The setup was still not cost-efficient, but the juice and grapes were superior, and the wine that amateurs made from them won many awards.

Directions
From Toronto/Niagara Falls/Buffalo: 1. From the QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way), take the Niagara-on-the-Lake Exit (# 38B from Toronto / # 38 from Niagara Falls and Buffalo). The Niagara-on-the-Lake signs will lead you to Highway # 55. 2. Drive 12 km along Highway # 55 toward Niagara-on-the-Lake. 3. Turn Right at East and West Line - the third set of traffic lights in Virgil. 4. Drive until you reach the end of East and West Line (about 4 km). 5.Turn Right onto the Niagara Parkway. Drive less than half a km and you will find us at the bend in the road, on the Right with a sign reading Lailey Vineyard and Winery.

  2002 Cabernet Sauvignon VQA
Dark ruby colour with aromas of cassis, plum, mint and vanilla. The palate is well-balanced with rich, sweet fruits along with licorice and cedar. An exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon from an exceptional vintage.
  2002 Dry Late Harvested Riesling VQA
Intense peach and ripe green apple on the nose. the palate shows very intense fruit with peach, green apple skin and some citrus notes. The acidity if fresh and balanced. The flavours linger on a very long finish. This is a serious, old-world style Riesling with lots of weight and mouthfeel.
  2002 Limited Edition Chardonnay VQA
Sweet aromas of lime, grilled pineapple and exotic spices. The flavours are rich and concentrated on the palate. A fresh acidic backbone adds to the purity of cool climate fruit. An excellent finish. GOLD MEDAL -Ontario Wine Awards 2004. GOLD MEDAL - Best Chardonnay - Canadian Wine Awards 2004
  2002 Riesling VQA
A very refreshing wine with fresh green apple and peach flavours, some mineral notes on the finish, which is dry and crisp. Bottled in July 2003 this wine is now beginning to show a little development of the petrol characteristics but only very slightly. There is a classic peach pit characteristic on the finish
  2003 Cabernet Franc VQA
This wine has a beautiful, rich and tangy intensity that simply invites venison to the table. It is also great with lamb chops on the barbecue and late summer potato salad from the garden. For the vegetarian, a ratatouille topped with fresh parmesan is a great partner. As the weather cools,Cabernet Franc is lovely alongside roasted chicken and fall vegetables or homemade lasagna with lots of fresh herbs.
  2003 Chambourcin VQA
This is a wine with rich fruit aromas and flavours, remniscent of bumble berry pie.There is a pleasing softness on the palate - very gentle tannins. This is a wine to drink today!
  2003 dry Vidal VQA
This is the first vintage of dry Vidal. Sweet tropical fruits on the nose with delicate floral notes. The palate is fresh and zesty with pineapple and nectarine flavours. The finish is dry and crisp with grapefruit and herbal notes.
  2003 MarĂ©chal Foch VQA
A full-bodied red wine with intense sweet dark fruits, spice, smoke and leather notes. The wine is rich and soft on the palate with a sweetness that makes this wine drinkable now but with the ability to age over the next few years.
  2003 Syrah VQA
Made in a northern Rhone style, this wine has lots of sweet plum and blackberry fruit with spice and tobacco notes on the nose. Sweet oak on the palate with dark berry flavours with a spicy finish. Good acidity and a comfortable presence of tannin, carry the flavours to a long finish. SILVER MEDAL - Ontario Wine Awards 2005
  2004 Chardonnay VQA
This Chardonnay has been barrel-fermented and barrel-aged. It is a generous Chardonnay with ripe yellow apple and pineapple fruit character and notes of butterscotch and toast. The wine is medium-boded with a rich and smooth texture. (600 cases)
  2004 off-dry Vidal VQA
Grapefruit, pineapple and green melon with delicate floral notes on the nose and palate. There is a fresh and zesty acidity that delivers the delicious fruit character to a long finish.
  2004 Unoaked Chardonnay VQA
This wine was fermented in stainless steel using select yeasts to bring out the freshness of the grape character. The wine was then aged on the lees (the yeast from fermentation) for three months. This nourishes the wine by giving it richness and complexity. The wine offers aromas and flavours of green apple and white peach with a nice core of acidity which balances the creamy richness on the palate. The wine finishes very fresh with some lively citrus notes.
  2004 Zweigelt VQA
A deep purple colour with cherry,cranberry and pommegranite flavours and aromas. There is a sweet oak richness mid palate that finishes with fresh red fruit acidity and slightly drying tannins.
  Cabernet - Merlot VQA
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot with flavours of blackberry, raspberry and plum. This wine has enough structure and depth for further ageing.
  Cabernet Franc Icewine VQA
Aged in stainless steel to retain fresh fruit. Shows aromas and flavours of raspberry and sweet cherry with a long lingering finish.
  Cabernet Franc Rose VQA
Cranberry aromas and red fruit flavours with a round mouth-feel and a crisp finish. A perfect match for grilled chicken and garlic roasted potatoes.
  Cabernet Franc VQA
An often overlooked red wine. Full-bodied with cherry aromas and flavours of cassis and currants. This wine will benefit from ageing. Pair with grilled venison.
  Cabernet Sauvignon VQA
Purple colour with rich, dark fruit aromas with cedar and spice notes. A creamy texture on the palate with a vanilla sweetness on a very persistent finish.
  Gamay Rose VQA
Aromas of sweet cherry and strawberry. Pleasing acidity on the finish
  Merlot VQA
Only two barrels were made in 2004, available in half bottles. Richly coloured with aromas of dark ripe fruits and spice. Medium bodied showing well integrated oak and a long finish.
  Old Vines Chardonnay VQA
Aromas of pear, ripe yellow apple skins, pineapple, toast and vanilla. This wine has a creamy texture and will age beautifully.
  Riesling Icewine VQA
Pale straw colour, aromas of clementine and candied peel, this wine has a rich mouth-feel and a long elegant finish. Match with a soft blue cheese or fruit tart.
  Vidal Icewine VQA
Aged in old oak barrels, a delicious wine with apricot, peach and honey flavours. Serve after dinner with a cheese plate.
  Vidal Late Harvest VQA
Harvest on December 3 at -3C, this wine has a delicate nose of honeyed peach with floral notes.
  Vidal Select Late Harvest VQA
Sweet yellow plum, melon and honeyed apricot on the nose. Round and rich mouthfeel with a spiced buttered apple finish, and just enough acidity to balance the sweetness.
