Jules J. Berta Vineyards are located atop Sand Mountain in Albertville, Alabama. The vineyards are five acres of vines on a 22 acre farm. The sandy soil and high elevation create a unique southern climate for growing vinifera grapes. The Berta’s are dedicated to making quality wines from their Alabama estate grown wine grapes. Controlling this aspect of the wine process enables them to ensure quality at each process from vine to bottle.
The first vines were planted in 1987 by Jules Berta, Sr., whom immigrated from Hungary in 1959. The first plantings were a combination of vinifera and French-American hybrid grapes. In 1993, Jules John Berta moved to Alabama and developed an interest in grape growing and winemaking with his father. Soon, it wasn’t long until their hobby turned into an obsession.
In 2005, after the death of his father, Jules Jr. carried on with his own plans of opening a winery. He inherited his fathers dream...FREEDOM, and his passion for life. Hard work and perseverance are among his character traits and what was said to be impossible, growing true wine grapes in Alabama, is now Jules J. Berta Vineyards.
