Sutcliffe Vineyards

Welcome to Sutcliffe Vineyards. Its beautiful setting in the red rock of McElmo canyon west of Cortez, Colorado, is surrounded by pinyon pine and juniper studded hillsides, sitting within the shadow of Sleeping Ute Mountain and Battlerock, drew me to this 240-acre wine estate in 1995. I was intrigued by the property's rich and ancient history, the Puebloans, the Conquistadors, the mystique of the wild west. But what pulled me most to this place was the potential for a fine vineyard. The vineyard is the secret of our success at Sutcliffe. This piece of land has been planted to grapes for more than a century, and over the last 12 years I have replanted and renovated the vineyard to ensure a continued supply of the highest-quality fruit. With these grapes, Stags' Leap produces sophisticated wines with firm backbone and subtle grace that express the unique and enduring character of our historic estate.
