Whitecliff Vineyard & Winery
|
|
Whitecliff Vineyard sits on 70 acres opposite the Shawangunk Mountain chain located west of the Hudson River (near New Paltz) and 60 miles north of New York City. It is one of nine wineries of the famed Shawangunk Wine Trail and is following in the tradition of French Huguenot settlers who brought wine making to this scenic valley over three centuries ago.
Today, we're using the latest techniques in vineyard management and enology to bring the best in European wine grape varieties back to this historic area. Whitecliff is working with European vinifera varietals such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Riesling, and quality hybrids like Seyval Blanc and Vignoles, including small plantings of Pinot Noir and Merlot. And we are pioneering use of Gamay Noir grape in the Hudson Valley for a true Beaujolais-style Nouveau.
Visitors are invited to sample wines in our tasting room and enjoy the spectacular view of the Shawangunk cliffs from the deck.

Awosting White
This Awosting is one of the best ever–clean and light, with a nice intensity of citrus flavors.
It combines Seyval Blanc and Vignoles, and is estate bottled exclusively from Whitecliff grapes.
It just won a silver medal at the New York Wine and Food Classic.

Cabernet Franc
If you remember the Cabernet Franc we poured last fall, this is the same wine after an extra eight months aging in our oak barrels. Chewy, mouth-filling tannins have softened and the flavors have developed to a complex range of leather and pipe tobacco.
|
Chardonnay
The 2003 has flavors of peach and butterscotch, good acidity, and only a touch of oak. It will sell out this month and we’ll soon be pouring the '04.
|
Merlot
Plenty of black cherry and a hint of anis, deep color, and a strong tannic structure developed through aging in new oak barrels make this a fine example of a New York Merlot. It will continue to develop in flavor and complexity for years to come. Suggested foods to accompany this wine: Steak, Italian foods, lamb, any beef dish, and spicy foods
|
Ridgeline Red
Deep color, rich wild bramble fruit, with black pepper, cherry and cedar, are presented over deep structured tannins. Tastes a lot like a South African Pinotage.
|
Riesling
This exceptionally smooth Riesling has the varietal’s signature rich fruitiness. It has a powerful, appealing aroma, and a lovely balance of refreshing acidity with sweet fruit flavors. Suggested foods to accompany this wine: pork, veal, poultry, or creamy pasta dishes
|
Rosé
This year our Cabernet Sauvignon-based Rose has plenty of fruit—emphasized by 1% residual sugar—but a dry finish that makes it a great wine for spicyfoods.
|
Sky Island Red
A wonderful Bordeaux blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc. This big tanic red wine, is full of fruit and spice and will probably age for a decade. Named for the ecosystem on top of the mountain in front of the winery. Suggested foods to accompany this wine: lamb chops and big steaks
