Grande Ronde Cellars
|
|
Grande Ronde Winery crushed its first Merlot and Cabernet grapes in 1997. The partners have been involved in all aspects of the wine business since 1983. Michael Manz, winemaker, has been making wine at Mountain Dome Winery since 1988. David Ramey consults on our Chardonnay project. We began our venture by making Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Seven Hills Vineyard, Walla Walla Valley Appellation. In 2003 we contracted to produce a limited amount of chardonnay from Willard Vineyard in Prosser, WA. David Ramey (Chalk Hill, Matanzas Creek, Dominus, Rudd Estates and Ramey) is our consultant for this project. We are also producing a Cabernet Sauvignon from Pepperbridge Vineyard in Walla Walla Valley. This will be released in 2005. We also have plans to release a Bordeaux-style blend from Seven Hills Vineyard in 2005. This blend will include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Grand Vidure. Visit the Grande Ronde Winery Tasting Room at 906 West Second, Spokane, WA.

Grande Ronde Chardonnay
The 2003 Grande Ronde Chardonnay went through 100% malolactic fermentation in 50% new and 50% one year old French oak barrels. This gives the wine a creamy texture reminiscent of the top white Burgundies. The chardonnay has a bouquet of apricot, peach and vanillin aromas. The wine has great depth exhibiting a balance of texture, elegance and length on the palate. Serve this wine with veal, chicken and pork as well as meatier fishes like halibut and salmon. David Ramey was our consultant on this project. Drink 2006-2009.

Merlot, Seven Hills Vineyard

On the palate the wine blends its fruit with soft tannins. The wine has an exceptionally long finish. It is a deep ruby color. Best to drink from 2005-2012.
