Ferrari-Carano Vineyards & Winery

Ferrari-Carano Vineyards & Winery Our 18 vineyards are found in the finest winegrowing regions of Sonoma County. These regions are officially known as appellations. Our vineyards are located in four appellations. We are pleased to announce Winemaker Aaron Piotter has joined the winemaking team and together with George Bursick will head the new Alexander Valley mountain wine estate. The mountain wine estate project includes 400 acres of distinct mountain vineyards; new caves completed this summer and a state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery slated for completion in the spring of 2004. While a portion of the mountain fruit will be used to make wines under the new brand, the balance of the grapes will continue to be used in the wines of Ferrari-Carano. Rounding out the Carano's winemaking team is enology consultant Philippe Melka, who was hired in April as a consultant to work on the mountain estate. "Philippe and I have a very similar approach to winemaking," observed Piotter. "We both believe the quality of the Carano's Alexander Valley vineyards will be expressed in complex wines with excellent structure and density."

Products

  Cabernet Sauvignon - Alexander Valley
Our 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon is friendly and quite approachable with all of the aromas and flavors that are characteristic of a classic Cabernet Sauvignon. Black currant, black cherry and plum are softened by a discernable vanilla flavor fashioned from ageing in American oak. The Ferrari-Carano Cabernet Sauvignon boasts a graceful texture and a polished finish.
  Chardonnay - Alexander Valley
In keeping with our classic style of Chardonnay, we have blended fruit from eight of our most prized vineyards in Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley and Napa/Carneros. This Chardonnay is a fruit-focused offering with tropical overtones of papaya and mango supplemented by toasty almond flavors. It is a wonderfully complex wine with impressive balance and length.
Eldorado Gold - Dry Creek Valley
Our 2002 Eldorado Gold is a product of patience and perfection. We earmark vineyards for late harvest, and harvest as little as a fifth of the vineyard, selecting only the most concentrated fruit. Because of the need for perfect growing conditions - rains followed by cool, windy weather - this wine is not bottled annually. Eldorado Gold has intense apricot and nectar characteristics, and is well-balanced, not cloying or overly sweet.
Eldorado Noir - Russian River Valley
The 2004 Ferrari-Carano Eldorado Noir is a truly unique dessert wine, made from black Muscat grapes grown in a single Russian River Valley vineyard. Known in Europe as a table grape variety, the Eldorado Noir is made only in years when weather conditions permit. This wine has a beautifully dark, viscous purple color, with bright rose petal, blueberry and strawberry aromas and flavors that are a delight to the palate. Sweet, but not overly sweet, the Eldorado Noir, is intensely aromatic and fresh and clean in its flavors.
Fiorella Chardonnay - Russian River Valley
In the Russian River Valley appellation, known for producing unique wines of finesse and balance, marine fog creeps in at night to cool ripening fruit, while the gravelly soils provide perfect drainage for the vines. Our delicious, single vineyard, Burgundian-style Fiorella Chardonnay is a bright, crisp wine with floral, apricot and citrus aromas. On the palate, hints of minerals, pear, citrus and fig mingle with a touch of oak. This is an elegant, well-balanced wine with a slightly creamy texture and a clean finish.
  Fumé Blanc - Sonoma County
Our 2005 Ferrari-Carano Fumé Blanc offers a fresh and vibrant fruit entry with a rich mouth feel. Zesty flavors and aromas of tropical fruit, apricot and lemon with a light floral characteristic and a hint of grass are complemented by creamy vanilla notes. Aging partially in stainless steel and older French Oak gives this wine a light-bodied feel complemented by subtle oak character.
  Merlot - Sonoma County
Select lots of grapes were chosen from our vineyards in Alexander, Dry Creek, Russian River and Napa/Carneros to create our beautifully balanced and full-bodied 2004 Ferrari-Carano Merlot. A multidimensional, velvety wine with a dark ruby color and complex nose of ripe cherry, blackberry, and exotic notes of licorice and cedar, this year’s Merlot is accented by intricately woven flavors of boysenberry, currant fruit and dark chocolate, with caramel lingering on the silky finish. Given proper cellaring, this wine will continue to provide drinking enjoyment to 2013.
  Reserve Chardonnay - Napa/Sonoma
The 2004 Reserve Chardonnay is a blend of the finest lots of wine from Ferrari-Carano’s Carneros and Alexander Valley vineyards. The cool climate of the Napa/Carneros region imparts its unique delicacy and finesse to the wine, while the Alexander Valley component adds an intensely rich mouth-filling tropical character. A fruit-focused wine offering green apple with citrus overtones, the Reserve Chardonnay displays a delicious almond character supplemented by a warm, toasty oak finish.
  Sangiovese - Alexander Valley
The 2004 Ferrari-Carano Sangiovese from our mountain vineyards in Alexander Valley displays an atypical darkness, richness and ripeness for the Sangiovese grape. Aromatic characteristics of luscious red and black berry fruit with deep, concentrated cherry, rich mocha and toffee notes are followed by ripe supple tannins and a tremendously long finish of caramel, vanilla and chai spice.
  Sauvignon Blanc - Sonoma County
The 2005 Ferrari-Carano Sauvignon Blanc is 100% Sauvignon Blanc Musque fruit from a single vineyard in Sonoma County. A cooler, wetter season without the traditional heat spikes provided some beautiful fruit and produced one of the more bountiful grape crops in the county’s history.
  Sienna - Sonoma County
Our 2004 Siena reflects the Ferrari-Carano Italian heritage by combining the Italian grape, Sangiovese, with Sonoma County's finest grapes. Siena has unique aromas of strawberry and raspberry. We blend the Sangiovese with Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon to add support to the mouth-feel and body.
  Syrah - Alexander Valley
Our 2002 Syrah comes from our hillside vineyards in Alexander Valley, a region known for growing Syrah grapes. Vineyards that scale the hillsides surrounding the valley floor provide rich and complex flavors, in addition to grapes that are powerful and concentrated. Our Syrah exhibits aromas of jammy black fruits, spice and earth. The flavors are dense and lush yet reveal grace and balance.
Tre Terre Chardonnay - Russian River Valley
The Russian River Valley's fog-cooled climate and well-drained soils are ideal for producing some of the finest chardonnays in the world, including our 2004 Tre Terre Chardonnay. This Chardonnay has a fruit-forward style and floral hues with bright acidity. A combination of new and older French oak barrels lends creamy quality with apricot and peach overtones.
  Trésor - Alexander Valley
Ferrari-Carano presents its finest blend of the five classic Bordeaux varietals – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot – from the best selections of all our vineyards in Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys. Aptly named “Trésor” for “treasure,” the grapes are grown exclusively from dryfarmed, low yielding vines primarily on our mountain vineyards. Intense, concentrated and dark ruby red in color, Trésor has layered aroma and flavor components, including black cherry and plum mingled with warm cedar, eucalyptus and the sweet toast of French oak. Despite its power, Trésor is an elegant and supple wine, showing ripe, smooth tannins and a long, fruit-dominated finish.
Villa Fiore Grenache Rosé - Alexander Valley
The generous warmth of the Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys create the ideal growing conditions that allowed the grapes for our 2005 Villa Fiore Grenache Rosé to develop the delicious bright red fruit flavors representative of this wine. Best enjoyed when it is young, our Grenache Rosé wine is a vibrant rose color with exceptional clarity. Aromas and flavors of crisp strawberry, raspberry and delicate spice shine through while soft and subtle tannins contribute to its structure.
Villa Fiore Pinot Noir - Russian River Valley
In the Russian River Valley appellation, known for producing unique wines of finesse and balance, marine fog creeps in at night to cool ripening fruit, while the gravelly soils provide perfect drainage for the vines. Our 2004 Villa Fiore Russian River Valley Pinot Noir offers a range of vibrant flavors, from ripe wild berry, raspberry and strawberry, to vanilla and nutmeg from French oak aging. The flavors and length are intensified by lively acidity and soft delicate tannins.
  Zinfandel - Dry Creek Valley
The Dry Creek Valley's reputation as a source for outstanding Zinfandel is revealed in our 2003 vintage. Our Dry Creek Zinfandel displays the classic characteristics of this highly prized Dry Creek varietal; layers of complex blackberry, plum, cherry and spice flavors, heightened by rich aromas of vanilla and sweet oak. This wine is to be enjoyed now, or over the next two to three years.
