Whetstone Wine Cellars

Whetstone Wine Cellars Hello and welcome to all new and returning folk. It’s time to replenish the coffer, so I find myself putting on my best pair of jeans and heading into town to sell my wares. Most of you will recognize Catie’s Corner Viognier, but all of you will need to be introduced to the new single-vineyard on the block, Pleasant Hill Pinot Noir. Charlie Chenowith, who is arguably one of the better Vineyard Managers anywhere, farms the place for Owner, Bob Jenkins. The vines are entrenched in Goldridge Loam, which is the hallmark soil series of classic Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. The 2003 Hirsch Vineyard Pinot Noir is comfortably tucked away in the warehouse for its long winter, spring, and summer nap. With the Late Summer Release letter, I’ll give you the scoop on our first Syrah from the Sonoma Coast, Guidici Vineyard!

  Whetstone Pinot Noir
100% French Oak, 35% new wood. Indigenous yeast primary fermentation and natural completion of ML. Punch downs only! Unfined, unfiltered. Feminine nose of rose petals, sweet cherries, and tea leaves. Medium bodied with richly textured flavors of plum, cherry, pomegranate, and tea. Lengthy finish of lingering plum, bing cherry and tea. 14.0% alc. 140 cases produced.
  Whetstone Pinot Noir
All French oak, 35% new wood. Indigenous yeast primary fermentation and natural completion of ML. Punch downs only! Unfined, unfiltered. Probably the darkest colored Pinot I’ve made to date. Intense, concentrated nose of dark cherry cola, raspberry, and forest floor with hints of soy and tea leaves. Full bodied mouthful of ripe, dark cherries, raspberries, plums and a note of pipe tobacco. Finish seems to continue on infinitely with underlying acidity that begs for something to eat. 14.2% alc. 430 cases produced.
  Whetstone Viognier
100% French Oak, NO new wood. Whole-cluster, direct to press, direct to barrel. Indigenous yeast primary fermentation and natural completion of ML. This is a big, classically-French style of Viognier. Nose of apricots, honeysuckle blossoms, orange peel, lime-scented citrus, licorice and ripe peaches. Rich, viscous mouthfeel of peach liquer, apricots, citrus and honey that finishes long with the right amount of acidity to close the deal. 14.5% alc. 135 cases produced.
  Whetstone Viognier
All French oak, NO new wood. Whole-cluster, direct to press, direct to barrel. Indigenous yeast primary fermentation and natural completion of ML. Unfined, unfiltered. Pale, straw color. Concentrated nose of key lime pie, orange peel, lychee, honey and apricot. Voluptuous mouthful of peaches, apricots, honey, and key limes. Finishes long and silky with signature acidity the vineyard is known for. 14.2% alc. 165 cases produced.
