Summerland Winery
|
|
Significant time is spent traveling the region, surveying vineyard sources and tasting with winemakers. These attentions are essential to maintaining the high quality and low prices exemplified by the Central Coast Collection. Decisions as to which regions and vineyards will perform best in a vintage are made early on, by following weather patterns,
inspecting berry sets and surveying the vineyards. Throughout the growing season you will find the two making frequent trips
to the single vineyard sources to insure that the contracted fruit for the program is farmed to the specified yields and quality.
Expect new and exciting bottlings to enter the Single Vineyard Collection over the years as we search for unique and outstanding fruit to include in our reserve tier.

Cabernet Sauvignon Santa Barbara County
This well-balanced Cabernet Sauvignon displays a core of generous black currant and plum fruit, with hints of spice from oak aging. The blend is enhanced by a small portion of Merlot which adds to the complexity and texture of the wine. The result is a smoothly textured wine with good depth and regional character.

Chardonnay Bien Nacido Vineyard
We realized that expectations would be rather high for us when we elected to our Chardonnay grapes from the Bien Nacido Vineyard, recognized worldwide for its consistent and expressive Burgundian varietals. After countless tastings and consultations with various producers in the region, we set our winemaking on a course to achieve an elegant and balanced representation of the fruit. A barrel regiment of 100% Francois Freres cooperage, one-third new, combined with the fully developed fruit flavors of the 2002 harvest, has led to a wine that is uniquely balanced, with traditional Bien Nacido texture aligning beautifully with bright acidity and tropical notes on the palate.

Chardonnay Santa Barbara County
Chardonnay has long been the reigning varietal for the Central Coast in terms of quality and production. Our Summerland Chardonnay is largely derived from the full, expressive fruit of the cool Santa Maria Valley. The wine opens with inviting aromas of fresh citrus blossom, matched with equally inviting flavors of d'Anjou pear and spiced apple.

Grenache Paso Robles
This wine shows delicate spice and fruity aromas. On the palate this medium body Rhone style wine is excellent to drink now and will age well for the next three years. Enjoy with a light meet dish or soft cheeses.
|
Merlot Santa Barbara County
A gracefully balanced wine showcasing distinctive Merlot fruit with subtle regional qualities of white pepper and lavender. Aging in small French oak barrels for an average of fourteen months has greatly added to the length and character of this wine, imparting pleasant red fruit and vanilla notes that carry through to the finish.

Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard
The 2006 harvest delivered flawless grape quality that has yielded deeply expressive fruit concentration while in the barrel. Within the diverse spectrum of Pinot Noir planted in the Bien Nacido Vineyard, we selected the oldest section of vines, planted in 1973, for the core of our program. This was supported with 12% of the Pommard clone to add backbone, color and complexity in the blending process. The wine has aged in 100% Francois Freres cooperage from a variety of forests, and will be bottled unfiltered. We foresee achieving both finesse and power in this bottling, which already exhibits the makings of an impressive inaugural release for our single vineyard program.

Pinot Noir Odyssey Thurlestone Vineyard
The Odyssey Thurlestone Vineyard was planted in the extreme northwest point of Edna Valley under the slope of Mt. Islay, in soils composed of volcanic elements and ancient marine sediment. We were drawn to this vineyard, dedicated entirely to Pinot Noir, specifically for the low yields (averaging 1.55 tons per acre) and for the superior clones they have to offer. We contracted clones 777 and 667 for the core of this wine, with a small portion of Pommard for complexity. The wine has aged in 100% Francois Freres cooperage from a variety of forests. Throughout the winemaking process this wine has really surprised us, from its expressive and delicious flavors when it began aging to the refined and "serious Pinot" state it has reached now.

Pinot Noir Santa Barbara County
Pinot Noir is the true darling of the region. The fruit for theis bottling was sourced primarily from various blocks in the Bien Nacido Vineyard and a small portion of the blend was derived from nearby vineyards that share the same soil and climate within the Santa Maria Valley. Forward black cherry and clove dominate this beautifully balanced and smoothly textured wine.

Sauvignon Blanc Central Coast
This vibrant Sauvignon Blanc boasts a mouthful of bright tropical fruits and ruby
grapefruit with similar aromatics. It is a nicely textured wine exhibiting mid-palate flavors of lychee and stone fruits that crescendo towards a clean, elegant finish. Enjoy on its own as a refreshing apéritif or as a complement to mixed green salads, goat cheese and fish marinated in fresh herbs.

Syrah Paso Robles
With Syrah quickly becoming the "wine to watch" with every new vintage in the Central Coast, we are proud to offer this selection sourced primarily from the warm inland region of Paso Robles. A perfect Syrah nose, peppery and exotic, unfolds into a wine that is superbly lush on the palate displaying "gorgeous," blueberry fruit.
