Palmer Vineyards
|
|
Palmer is one of Long Island’s most modern wineries, located on one of the area’s oldest country estates. Guests will enjoy tasting the Palmer wines in the atmosphere of an authentic English pub. While not the oldest winery on the North Fork, Palmer, in little more than a decade has become the most widely distributed Long Island Wine as well as it’s most honored. With a winemaking philosophy of keeping as much of the flavor and fruit of the fruit as possible, Palmer produces wines that reflect the unique soil and climate on the East End.

5 Acre Chardonnay
The grapes used for this Chardonnay were exclusively from Palmer's 5 acre block of Chardonnay, which consistently yields superior quality fruit. The wine is a blend of barrel and stainless steel fermentation, best representing the unique qualities and attributes of this Chardonnay. The result is a wine exhibiting ripe pear and apple aromas with mineral accents and a long crisp finish on the palate. We believe this style to have a natural affinity with the bounty of seafood found in our local waters, as well as, most chicken, veal, and other white meat preparations. Only 150 cases produced

Cabernet Franc
Harvested in late October our estate grown Cabernet Franc is an elegant wine, reminiscent of those produced in the Loire Valley in France. This wine shows bright cherry and pepper aromas and flavors, soft silky tannins, with hints of smoke and leather. 100% Cabernet Franc, this style is food friendly, pairing well with roasted small game, grilled meats, and fish steaks.
|
Cabernet Sauvignon
This Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a wide spectrum of aromas and flavors ranging from red fruit, to coffee, to chocolate with earthy characteristics of mushrooms and hints of leather. Soft and supple on the palate this wine is ready to drink now but will age gracefully over the next five years. A perfect match for red meat, roasted fowl and non-acidic sauces.

Gewurztraminer
This off-dry styled Gewurztraminer displays the classic spicy flavors and exotic perfume inherent in this noble Alsatian varietal when picked at optimum ripeness. Partners well with crustaceans, or curried and highly seasoned foods. Delicious as an aperitif.

Long Island White
An off dry wine great with a meal or just as an afternoon sip.
|
Merlot
Intense color and flavor extraction during the initial fermentation stages led to the development of black berry fruit aromas and rich texture on the palate. Fourteen months of barrel aging in oak cooperage, with periodic racking and gentle aeration, allowed this Merlot to develop its fullest potential character. Stylistically, the Merlot resembles those wines produced in the famous St. Emillion region of France. Showing soft tannins and smoky oak, this Merlot exhibits herbal earthy tones with berry fruit flavors. Its rich color and supple structure fare equally well with red meats, pork, and demi-glace based sauces. Long Island's unique microclimate provides ideal conditions for the production of this noble grape.

N41 W72 Merlot Cuvee
This red wine was named for the North Fork's geographical latitude and longitude, the coordinates for great Merlot. The 41/72 Merlot Cuvee was aged mainly in older oak barriques for 12 months and then another 12 months in large oak casks. The somewhat longer than usual pre-bottle aging was to facilitate its accessibility upon release, and to soften and smooth out the wine. This Merlot has soft cherry notes with subtle hints of coffee and chocolate with a smooth but firm tannin structure. An affordable everyday wine, meant to drink young. Perfect with pasta, roast chicken, burgers, and everyone's favorite, pizza.

N41/W72 Chardonnay
The 41/72 Chardonnay is partially steel fermented and partially barrel fermented, with the barrel portion 100% Malolactic and aged on the lees for 10 months. The best of both worlds, the barrel portion lends a creaminess, as well as weight and texture on the palate. The stainless steel portion adds bright acidity and crisp apple flavors. The result is a well balanced rich but lively wine. Because of this the wine pairs easily with a broad spectrum of food, especially white fleshed fish, shellfish, poultry, and most anything with a cream sauce. Value oriented, meant for everyday consumption.

Pinot Blanc
Palmer Pinot Blanc is a blend of barrel and stainless steel fermentation. A large portion of the fruit is hand-picked and whole cluster pressed to preserve the delicate, fresh varietal characteristics of this grape. The result is a vibrant, crisp wine with apple and melon flavors and a refreshingly citrus finish. This style of Pinot Blanc is a harmonious match with the bounty of seafood harvested from our local waters.

Reserve Chardonnay
This Chardonnay was produced with traditional Burgundian methods, utilizing substantial new French oak for barrel fermentation, then keeping the wine in contact with the yeast for the duration of barrel aging. Frequent stirring of these yeast lees, along with malo-lactic fermentation, helps soften the acidity as well as adding flavor and textural complexity. The rich fruit, toast, butterscotch qualities and creaminess of this wine have an affinity with lobster, crab, and butter/cream based sauces,as well as roast chicken and lemon sauces.
|
Reserve Merlot
In the finest vintages we produce the Reserve Merlot utilizing grapes from our best vineyard blocks. The 2001 Reserve Merlot was produced from grapes harvested from our vineyard in Cutchogue. These vines are over 20 years old and have produced some of the best Merlot on the North Fork. This Merlot was aged for 16 months in new oak barrels. The result is a full-bodied, rich Merlot, smoky, coffee and cedar aromatics with a big black-cherry taste. Fine aging potential. Pairs extremely well with red meats, roast duck, and other roasted game dishes.

Riesling
The winemaking style of Palmer Vineyards’ Riesling allows the gentle, fruity qualities of this varietal to show their very best, with floral aromas, crisp lively flavors and an off- dry finish. This wine is a harmonious match with bay scallops, roast pork, and Alsatian style classics such as onion tart or Choucroute Garnie.
|
Sauvignon Blanc
Not widely planted on the North Fork of Long Island, we believe this varietal to have a natural affinity to the coastal micro-climate and local seafood fare. A portion of this wine is tank-fermented to accentuate the fresh varietal characteristics of the grape. The remaining juice is barrel fermented and left in contact with the yeast lees to gain complexity and roundness. This wine exhibits classic Sauvignon Blanc characteristics of grapefruits and grassiness on the nose and refreshing citrus, lemongrass flavors. This wine is a perfect match with shellfish and other seafoods, and also compliments dishes with strong herb seasonings.
|
Select Reserve Red
This classic Bordeaux-style blend reflects our continued committment to excellence in the production of fine red wines. A blend of 63% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, drawing upon the strengths of each of these varietals, we have created a balanced wine rich in texture with black fruit and dark chocolate flavors. Superior aging potential.
|
Sparkling Brut
A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc, this champagne was produced in the traditional Methode Champenoise. After 2 1/2 years of tirage (left in contact with yeast) the cuvee was disgorged and exhibits classic toasty notes on the nose, rich creaminess on the palate and a bright clean finish. A perfect way to start a meal with light appetizers or compliment the end while enjoying Reggiano Parmignano or Chevre.
