Ribbon Ridge Vineyard

Ribbon Ridge Vineyard Ribbon Ridge Winery wines will be the best wines we can source from our 164 acre estate, and from the oldest plantings on Ribbon Ridge. They are not designed for a mass market, but for serious aging and for understanding the potential of this special land mass called Ribbon Ridge. Their concentration, their blackness, their elegance, their textural excitement all stem from the vineyard—its maturity; deep penetration of dry-farmed vines to find rock, nutrients and water; organic farming; limited yield and sensitive fermentation to protect vintage characteristics. Stylistically, the single Pinot noir will be the masculine counterpart to the choices I make to compose the archetypal feminine Chehalem Reserve. I began my wine career on Ribbon Ridge and hope to retain it as a base until the end, leaving it as a heritage for family to preserve and improve

Directions
From Portland: Take Highway 99 W southwest to Newberg. Near the west end of Newberg, turn right on North Main, following the signs to Highway 240 and Chehalem Valley. After a few blocks, veer left following the main road (N. Chehalem Drive). Continue on 240/N. Chehalem Drive five miles to Ribbon Ridge Road. Turn right to cross Chehalem Valley. After you cross the valley, turn left and stay on the paved road, North Valley Road. (Ribbon Ridge Road continues straight and is unpaved — don’t take it.) Continue approximately 2 miles on North Valley Road from the intersection with Ribbon Ridge Road. The road to the vineyard is on the right, 1 mile past Tillicum Camp and Patricia Green Cellars, and just past an old farm on the right. Look for the small Ribbon Ridge sign.

  Dewey Kelly Early Muscat
The 2004 early Muscat has the same floral aromatics that tantilize the nose and linger long into the finish, but this year with more peach than apricot. The aromatics are embellished by a silky smooth texture that glides across your palate and holds the flavors throughout the long finish. The frizzante style adds a touch of levity to the wine and keeps you from taking it too seriously. The 2004 Dewey Kelly Early Muscat is excellent before, during, or after dinner (or breakfast, for that matter). Once again it is in short supply with only 60 cases made.
  Dewey Kelly Pinot Gris
Bright, crisp, and clean, with apple flavors and undertones of tropical fruit and grapefruit, our early release Pinot Gris is a perfect summer wine. Great for sipping by itself or with cheese, it also holds up well to light curries or hard-to-match Asian cuisine. Portends great things for the Pinot Gris Reserve, to be released late this summer. Extremely limited with only 20 cases bottled.
  Dewey Kelly Pinot Gris Reserve
The 2004 Pinot Gris perfectly captures the essence of the pinot gris grapes in the vineyard. It is bright and crisp with tropical notes of star fruit and pineapple. Like the 2003, it was barrel fermented and remained in the barrels, sur lies, for four months. This gives it body and depth that sustain the bright crispness and fruit flavors all the way through to the finish. Great for sipping by itself or with cheese, poultry, or seafood, it also holds up well to spicy curries or hard-to-match Latin or Asian cuisine. Just 51 cases were bottled.
  Ribbon Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir
This critically aclaimed wine is extraordinarily soft, elegant, and complex for third-leaf fruit. The 60% Pommard-clone fruit provides a juicy foundation of black cherries and purple plum with the Dijon 777-clone fruit adding some brighter overtones of red berries and cherry. Subtle hints of violets add to the elegance of the wine and the French oak gives it a long, toasty finish. The wine is nicely structured and is very drinkable now with six months of bottle age. Drink now through 2013.
  Ribbon Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir
This wine is a worthy successor to our highly rated 2003 Estate Pinot Noir. Once again, the wine is soft and complex. Raspberries and red cherries highlight a juicy foundation of black cherry and plum. The oak provides a sturdy backbone and a bit of toasted spice, but the fruit dominates from the start to the long, elegant finish. In our opinion, this wine is ahead of where the 2003 was at this point. It has good structure and great fruit, so while drinkable now, it will get better with bottle age and be a cellar favorite for the next decade. Total production was 300 cases.
