Crazy Rooster Brewing

Tim and Jason first crossed paths 20 years ago working at a Richmond area environmental engineering consulting company. Throughout the years they’ve stayed in touch both professionally and personally. In late 2016, while driving through the rural countryside, Jason decided it was time for a career change. Jason and his wife, Tammara, had been thoroughly enjoying the growing Richmond brewery scene, and having recently gotten back into homebrewing, why not open a brewery in your new home county of Powhatan! Knowing Tim also appreciates good craft beer; and previously lived in Powhatan; a business partnership was born!
The plan was to open a small craft brewery along the Rt. 60 corridor to become a community staple and local gathering place. Crazy Rooster will showcase what the rural Powhatan community has to offer. We will utilize locally sourced ingredients from the local agricultural community when available, in the brewing process, and spent grains and yeast is given to local farmers to help feed livestock and/or produce baked goods. While hanging out and enjoying delicious craft beer, visitors to the brewery may also periodically find locally produced goods for purchase, helping to contribute to a growing local economy.
Crazy Rooster is located in the Oakbridge Business Center, conveniently located right off Rt. 60 a half mile across the Powhatan/Chesterfield County line and just a few miles from the Rt. 288 interchange (Westchester Commons). We occupy an approximate 5,000 square foot leased unit of a 20,000 square foot multi-tenant building. In our approximate 3,000 square foot brewing area we utilize a 10 beer barrel [1 beer barrel (bbl) = 31 gallons] direct fired brewhouse to produce approximately 600 bbl per year to start. In our approximate 2,000 square foot tasting room we offer 8-12 beers on tap with a variety of ales and lagers. We will have some mainstays, some seasonals, and some experimentals to ensure we always keep it interesting. Beer are currently available for consumption on site as well as to go in cans and growlers. There is an area for live music and hopefully soon some video games! Additionally, there is an approximate 900 square foot patio in front of the building to enjoy some tasty brews and sunshine.
