Silver Lake Winery

Silver Lake Winery Silver Lake Winery crushed our first vintage in the fall of 1989. In the past thirteen years the winery has grown from 2,000 cases to more than 25,000 cases of hand crafted wine. Under our Spire Mountain Cider label we produce more than 40,000 cases of hard cider. The winery began as the outgrowth of the passion for fine wines shared by three professors at the University of Washington. Their experiments with home winemaking and a lifetime of collecting exceptional wine eventually blossomed into what is now Silver Lake Winery. Quite literally, “the hobby that got out of control.” Silver Lake Winery has now grown to be the 7th largest winery in Washington State. We now have winemaking facilities both at our Roza Hills Vineyard, and at our adjacent Zillah Tasting Room. Combined these two facilities have a capacity of 250,000 gallons. We have tasting rooms located in the Yakima Valley as well as in the thriving tourist district of Woodinville, 15 miles northeast of Seattle. Our wines now have broad distribution in the Pacific Northwest in virtually all major grocery and retail outlets and in many fine restaurant accounts. We are currently developing and new retail/winery complex to expand our presence in Woodinville and continue to upgrade our winemaking facilities in Eastern Washington. Look for more details as these projects develop. Silver Lake Winery is definitely on the move!

Directions
Our tasting room is located about 15 miles northeast of Seattle. From Interstate 405 take exit #23 Eastbound (State Route 522) and stay in the right lane. This Chardonnay has enough body to stand up to, and enhance, flavorful foods.
  Cask Series Chenin Blanc
This wine is the perfect match for light fish, poultry and salads. Crafted especially for everyday enjoyment, this wine has just a bit of residual sugar without being sweet. Great with a picnic, as an aperitif, or at a summer barbeque.
  Cask Series Gewürztraminer
This spicy, floral wine is the result of another exceptional growing season in the Columbia Valley. After harvest the wine underwent a slow cool fermentation that helped develop layers of luscious fruit aromas and flavors. While the nose reveals spicy pear scents characteristic of this varietal, on the palate flavors of pears and peaches linger in the long finish. This off-dry wine is the perfect complement to a summer picnic or that Holiday turkey!

The cold stainless steel fermentation helps maintain the crisp acidity which gives additional depth and structure to these flavors. This is an ideal wine to pair with shellfish, seafood or poultry.
  Cask Series Syrah
The Yakima Valley has turned out to be an ideal growing site for this great Rhone varietal. The long hours of sunlight followed by cool evenings bring the perfect touch of ripeness and acids to the tiny, dark berries. This wine is firm, with tart, lively structure and tangy currant, plum, raspberry and chocolate flavors underscored by cedar, fresh herb and cracked pepper flavors. Roasted vegetables, duck, couscous with spiced vegetables, T-bone steak, and beef stew or lamb match well with this wine.
  Grand Reserve Blanc
The blending of two classic Bordeaux white varietals creates a meritage-style wine that is both elegant and extremely complex. The crisp fruit qualities of the Sauvignon Blanc are exquisitely balanced with the rich round flavors of the Semillon. Hints of pear, pineapple and grapefruit in the palate give way to a smooth lingering finish. This richly complex wine is an excellent companion to all types of shellfish.
  Grand Reserve Cabernet
This handcrafted wine is the essence of the winemaker’s art. Raspberry aromas with accents of blackberries and blueberries are married with the complexities of French oak, creating layers of flavor. This youthful wine has a wonderfully firm structure that will allow it to continue to improve in the bottle over the next ten years while still being outstanding today. The finish is extremely long and complex with a mix of subtle fruit and oak flavors. Blackened steak, medallions of venison or barbecued short ribs with spicy black beans, would all be enhanced by this wine

  Grand Reserve Merlot

  Reserve Series Cabernet Sauvignon
Clean and focused, the red currant and cherry flavors in this lovely wine are enhanced by the smoky cedar wood notes acquired through 23 months of aging in predominately new oak barrels. The firm tannins increase the cellaring potential and add depth and balance without overpowering the gorgeous fruit flavors. This wine has exceptional depth and complexity and will hold up well when served with robust beef dishes with rich sauces
  Reserve Series Chardonnay
The blending of fruit from two wonderful Columbia Valley vineyards creates a complex Chardonnay with layers of rich apple and melon flavors. These ripe flavors are balanced by firm acids creating a forward wine with bright, crisp intensity. Completing the flavor profile are the rich buttery effects of malolactic fermentation and the vanilla characteristics imparted by the small French oak barrels used during fermentation and aging. This wine is the perfect foil for rich cream sauces, crab cakes or broiled Northwest seafood.
  Reserve Series Fume Blanc
A term first credited to Robert Mondavi in the seventies, "Fume Blanc" typically refers to a barrel aged Sauvignon Blanc. In order to reduce some of the herbaceousness of Sauvignon Blanc, barrel aging is used to soften the acidity and round out the grassiness with soft hints of cedar. This wine spent eight months on oak before achieving the richness which makes it one of our favorite dry whites.
  Reserve Series Late Harvest Riesling
Picked late in the season at their sweetest, these Riesling grapes are loaded with ripe peach and apricot flavor. Rich in texture with a very smooth finish, this wine will be a delight with fresh fruit deserts, as well as semi-sweet cake style pastries
Reserve Series Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc
It has long been a tradition in Southern Bordeaux to let the white grapes hang on the vines until they pick up enough sweetness to produce the much sought after Sauternes dessert wines. In 2002, we first decided to leave the Sauvignon Blanc (one of the 2 great white grapes in Bordeaux) on the vines late into the season to see if we could make our own rich, sweet version. The finished product is a beautifully viscous, pear and pineapple flavored delight with subtle tropical hints of banana. The is the perfect evening finisher no matter what the occasion.
  Reserve Series Merlot
The bold and fresh black, blue and raspberry fruit aromas are supported by an underpinning of soft velvety wood flavors of vanilla and cedar. Aged for 22 months in small oak barrels (77% new French oak) the tannins in this wine are beautifully balanced with the intense rounded fruit flavors. Serve this wine with all types of red meat dishes. The subtle flavors of rosemary encrusted lamb make the perfect foil for the lively fruit flavors in this exceptional wine.
  Reserve Series Syrah
This wine is filled with aromas of dark raspberry and blackberry fruit complicated with hints of cedar, vanilla and black pepper. The palate reveals ripe flavors of black fruits, fat, sweet and rich, with lively violet and licorice notes and firm underlying structure. Late hint of inky licorice. Silky and elegant, with good volume and plenty of personality. The rich supple ripe fruits linger on one’s palate with a nice smooth pleasing finish.
  Reserve Series Zinfandel
California's claim to fame, this grape has been tough to ripen in Washington State. Our warm, Roza Hills site has provided just the right amount of warmth and sunshine and the resulting wine is big, ripe and juicy. Hints of black currants and cedar pervade this wine and the heavy, well integrated tannins give it the staying power to sit in your cellar for a few years while aging gracefully. Best with barbeque and other bold cuisine.
