Bob and Sue Brakesman purchased the 21 acre Carlo Farazzi Ranch on Howell Mountain in 1971 with a dream of ownership and a passion to make a world class wine. Twenty-five years later, the dream and the passion are an on-going reality. Known for their commitment to produce award winning Zinfandels and their hospitable down to earth style, I was eager to visit this winery.

"Clair Riley" Zinfandel Port
Quite frankly, this is perhaps the best Zinfandel Port ever. Produced from a dry farmed vineyard planted in 1917, the concentration of flavors is spectacular. Port lovers love it. Non-port lovers are won over immediately. The fruit must hang weeks after harvest to produce the required sugar content. Weather conditions must be perfect. Subsequently, it is not produced every year. We suggest putting your name on the port list! There is a three bottle per person limit. 2001 "Clair Riley" "Pirates Reserve" Port.

"Emily Kestrel" Cabernet Sauvignon
Deep garnet color, Floral nose packed with mature fruit. bing cherries, cassis, vanilla and a medium oak toast create a silky smooth feel. Only 400 cases produced.

Summit Lake Zinfandel
The vineyards atop Howell Mountain are known for the reds. Raspberries, subtle anis, cracked black pepper and chocolate abound in voluminous proportions 100% Zinfandel fruit. Drink now to 2020.
